apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Blogger Search: AT:Washington, DC Wants You!

3-14-ilovedc.jpgYesterday Boston, today the DC Area! Since we know that there are many of you in both places, we're reaching out simultaneously to both areas in looking for new bloggers.

Living in the DC area and addicted to furniture? Love writing and design in equal measure? House Tour junkie? We're heading south and looking for one awesome blogger to increase our coverage of the Mid Atlantic region. Let us know if it's you... (all info below the jump)

AT's Mission: helping everyday people create beautiful, organized, healthy homes by blogging resources, building community, providing inspiration, reviewing products, and tracking the news
.

Apartment Therapy is looking for (at least) one freelance interior design blogger in the Washington, DC area.

Responsibilities include daily posting that fully communicates the local design scene with house tours, shop reviews, product reviews, interviews and random design notes.

This is a part-time job, starting at one post a day and amping up eventually to three (2-3 hours a day). And it's great (but not required) if your other gigs plug you in to the design scene in some way.

You need:
• a good eye for design
• strong writing skills, but no magazine schlock styling
• a really good computer
• a totally reliable high speed connection
• a digital camera
• Photoshop
• knowledge of how to use all these things

Deadline: Friday, March 21st.

Submit:

• Your name
• Where you live
• How long have you been reading AT
• What you do full time
• 1 sample post with good pics of something that would be a great ATDC item - keep it 100-200 words max, and try to blog local subjects. Please submit posts written specifically for this and not for another blog.

To: Maxwellat4 @ gmail.com please put AT DC AREA in the subject header

We will confirm your email and reply to all emails early the following week, asking our top choices to try out live on the blog for a final sort.

Best,

Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan

I'm so excited that ApartmentTherapy is coming to D.C. that I JUST. CAN'T. STAND IT! I'd apply as a blogger except my design interest is purely novice. However, if you want a not-always-successful DIY'er with a penchant for bold colors, I'm your girl!

Anyway, welcome to D.C., AT! You're gonna love it here :-)

Though my daughter goes to school in NYC and I often visit, I am so excited for ATBoston. As a designer specializing in model homes for Residential Apartments and Lofts in Boston and New England, I am often on the site to keep up with the new trends and search for new sources. Welcome to Boston!!! Hmmm, maybe I should apply for the job?

YAYAYAYAY!!!!

Ooh. Sorry. Got a little over-excited there. It's Target and AT coming to DC all in the same week.

DC is desperate for AT because enormous numbers of people have apartments that look exactly the same. The challenge is all huge picture windows with metal frames, wall-length forced air HVAC ducts under those windows, featureless walls and doorways, "builders grade" everything in the kitchens and baths, and corporate management companies addicted to beige.

And I have kind of a crazy schedule with full time work and school. But this is GREAT! It's about time DC got some fun!!!! Cheers for making this happen!

"seriously, why are you not going SOUTH.."

Congrats to DC, though kat98 makes a great argument. DC isn't really "South" and with over 5 million people in the Metro Area alone, I feel like a great part of your readership is missing out.

Atlanta dwellings are incredibly diverse and unique, case and point being the recent Atlanta dwelling in the New York Times.

Please think about us in the next round is all I can really say.

Hey ATL haters (kidding), there was a survey a while back to determine the next 2 cities--so be patient! :) We'll share. Besides, I really think DC needs it more...the options here are kind of pathetic for a large metro area. I seem to remember cooler shops down there. Hope y'all managed to escape those tornadoes unscathed.

DC Sarah--you can TOTALLY learn photoshop. It's not that hard...seriously. I don't think AT is doing anything all that complicated with it.

yay! how exciting! i was just introduced to AT a couple months ago and i love it. i'm so glad the survey results helped choose DC as the next location...we're in need of some style tips. DC is so unhip and needs some creative infusion.

I'm sooo excited for DC! I think there's a lot of funk and style around here, but you just gotta know where to find it. And most of us just need some help finding it! I remember emailing AT a few months ago asking why where wasn't a DC site, so thanks for opening it up to us :-)

Last year I would have loved to have done this!

But now I'm too committed to work, school, my two blogs, and a weekly post on 2Modern. Maybe I'll catch you later in the run. Whoever does get the job should definitely write about The Good Eye, (vintage furniture/accessories) and checking out the thrift stores nearest the richest neighborhoods and in the suburbs. Congrats AT on getting to D.C. so soon!
