This just in. We just heard that Bo Concept, the much maligned AND loved Swedish modern furniture chain, is moving in on 18th Street, making this street a super-heavyweight for furniture stores.
Just down the block from West Elm and a number of thrift stores, it is a growing appendage to the whole Chelsea scene. Here's the official address:
BoConcept® Chelsea
144 West 18th Street
New York, NY 10011

Hope this doesn't drive up the rents for the thrift stores and drive them out of the neighborhood.
I know from past AT posts that people have had mixed results with this store. But I ordered a couch recently (in late Oct) that safely arrived as scheduled (12 weeks later) and love it. One big selling point is that couches are assembled in your apt, so you don't have to worry about whether or not they'll fit through your slightly-too-narrow door. The other thing that impressed me was their fabric selection (I went for a gray wool flannel).
I just wasn't convinced by their furniture. I looked at a dresser and their drawer bottoms were thinner than my current ikea crap. I guess buyer beware -- go in, but don't be so dazzled by the design that you forget to check the construction.
I would like to know more about why it is "much maligned." I've been to the Cambridge, Mass., store and was very impressed by the designs (but didn't look at the construction). Is that the issue, or is there more to the malignant talk?
Their furniture is hot but their parties are H-O-T-T-E-R!
I love Bo, awesome design, great prices and fairly quick delivery. I have been to the Chelsea store and I can honestly say, its small but packs a punch. I can get anything designed in any way for a kick-ass price. I just ordered a sectional, replacing my DWR sofa i got 2 years ago, which fell apart on me (snapped frame).
