This just in. Despite the bleak times, we do hope that Martha Stewart's company continues to do good work. Unfortunately, right now that is harder than it seems:
While Martha Stewart gears up for a possible five months in prison, employees at her company, Omnimedia, are getting a little welcome relief: stay bonuses. People who remain with the company—in a number of divisions—are receiving financial incentives for not jumping ship. “We have a variety of incentive programs to reward employees for their hard work and continued service,” confirms a company spokeswoman. Sadly, due to the climate and the specific circumstances at MSLO, this is seen as a frantic, last-ditch effort to save face and stock price, instead of what it COULD be seen as: a GREAT practice that every company, public or not, should be doing: rewarding their faithful and talented (and in doing so, saving even higher turn-over costs...).
