Starting Monday, a new feature is beginning that has been in the works for some time. "Chair &" is a project between Meter Gallery and ourselves, in which we have invited various photographers to contribute work that focuses on the idea of the Chair in its purity:
Throughout history, the chair has connoted status and authority, from tribal leaders' tree stumps to royal thrones to the Aeron chairs that became synonymous with '90s dot-com excess. Small wonder, then, that it has been placed on its own pedestal, inspiring the likes of Frank Gehry, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Philippe Starck.
Inspired by The Modernist, we wanted to let go of words, let creativity run wild and see if we could discover the essence of this singular piece of furniture through photography.
Therefore, we will be showing one image each week for the the full cycle of a year. At the end of the year, we will change the theme and start again.

What a fabulous idea... AT thrills me; so much passion for design couched in elegant content.
Poetry, photos, flowerbox slideshows, today's one-off marathon runners with reader commentary.
THANK YOU, MGR and company.
Beware of clicking on anything in The Modernist link - some quite randy stuff, in case your workplace cares about such things.
The chair addicts of the world thank you.
