This just in. We just recieved word that Emma Gardner, who makes those super nice rugs we like, has been hired to design a new Marmoleum floor at the Pine Cobble School in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
Founded in 2001, it is impressive how quickly Emma Gardner is growing her business (watch out Angela Adams!), but sticking to real design opportunites with a public service slant. It is also impressive that the Pine Cobble School has such good taste.
"Emma's creative use of color and pattern will add a stimulating focus to the school." says, David Kriegel of Gran Associates, the architecture firm she is working with on the project. Perhaps, but hopefully not too stimulating. The best part of Gardner's design is how calming her use of color is...which is what most kids need. MGR

So is Marmoleum the hip and acceptable cousin to the recently lionized Linoleum?!?
If so, I think the key here is that this installation is DESIGNED... considered for its properties, placed in a specific context, etc... the process which will elevate even the humblest of materials.
yes it is. look up forbo linoleum or marmoleum on google.
