Farrow and Ball Coming to SoHo

Heads up SoHo - the mall is getting bigger. We just heard that the English firm of Farrow & Ball has signed a lease on a 3,000 sf space at 112 Mercer St., between Prince and Spring. For those of us home junkies, who would rather this than another sneaker store, this is good news. Farrow & Ball has signed a 10-year lease for 3,000 square feet at 112 Mercer St., between Prince and Spring streets.

English wallpaper and paint supplier Farrow & Ball plans to open its first retail store in the city this spring.

The company, based in Dorset, England, has signed a 10-year lease for 3,000 square feet at 112 Mercer St., between Prince and Spring streets. The location will double as a retail store and a showroom for professional interior designers and architects. The company already operates a trade-only showroom in the D&D Building at 979 Third Ave.

The SoHo space is split between a ground-level selling floor and a basement for storage. The asking rent was $150 per square foot on the ground floor. Farrow & Ball expects to open the store in March.

�They are very well known in Britain,� says Stephen Tarter, the Tarter|Stats Realty principal who negotiated on behalf of landlord Noh Realty Corp. �The building owners loved this tenant.�

Another reason to love New York!
I can't speak highly enough about F&B paints-we've used them in every room in our house. The colors are sumptuous, the coverage is superior. My only quibble is durability--the flat, flat Estate Emulsion does not take kindly to being wiped or rubbed and I find I have to touch up from time to time. Thank goodness for F&B's fabulous tester cans.

The "Modern Emulsion," if I recall, is probably a better choice for more high traffci rooms (and is still quite flat -- it's more matte than satin). Another thumbs-up for F&B paint here. Not onyl was coverage excellent, but the fumes from the paint were virtually non-existent. I wouldn't enjoy sleeping in a bedroom freshly painted with a typical latex, but just a couple hours after a coat of F&B (non-oil), it was hardly noticeable.

I've been using Farrow & Ball paint for years, every time I repaint a room, and I also love the colors and the quality of the paint. I use Modern Emulsion (better "wipeability" as Pilgrim stated) for most rooms since it is much more durable than the Estate Emulsion. Love the low VOC's. This is fantastic news about the Soho store--I'm going to save so much on shipping costs!
