50 hours?!?!? I worship at Sarah-Kate's alter. Much congratulations; this will prove to be the happiest day of your lives (until number 2 arrives).

I am very into music (and very sappy) and when my own precious daughter was born one song really hit home with me, I am including the words as I;m sure it will ressonate with you as well:

"SHOW ME" by The Pretenders (it's about the birth of Chrissy hynde's own first daughter)

Show me the meaning of the word
Show me the meaning of the word
'Cause I've heard so much about it
They say, "Hey, you can't live without it"

Welcome to the human race
With its wars, disease and brutality
You with your innocence and grace
Restore some pride and dignity
To a world in decline

Welcome to a special place
In a heart of stone that's cold and gray
You with your angel face
Keep the despair at bay
Send it away, and

Show me the meaning of the word
Show me the meaning of the word
'Cause I've heard so much about it
I don't want to live without it
I don't want to live without it
Oh, I want love
I want love
I want love

Welcome here from outer space
The Milky Way is still in your eyes
You found yourself a hopeless case
One that's seeking perfection on earth
That's some kind of rebirth, so

Show me the meaning of the word
Show me the meaning of the word
'Cause I've heard so much about it
Don't make me live without it
Oh, love
I want love
I want
Love
I want love

Que milagre! Blessings and much joy and huge congratulations upon all three of you! [And what a marvelous illustration of the news -- thank you, Jill!]

Sara Kate, 50 hours is a record-breaking feat of endurance and strength; brava. And no, you won't hurt forever...just for the next while. Sleep as much as you can, as often as you can. All the baby books recommend that you sleep when the baby sleeps, which I thought was dumb advice -- but boy, they were right. The secret is to be as gentle with yourself as you are with Baby Girl. [and like you need more advice, esp. from a stranger? I'll shut up now!]

Isn't she lovely - isn't she wonderful
Isn't she precious - less than one minute old
I never thought through love we'd be
Making one as lovely as she
But isn't she lovely, made from love

Isn't she pretty - truly the angels' best
Boy, I'm so happy - We have been heaven blessed
I can't believe what God has done
through us he's given life to one
But isn't she lovely, made from love

Congrats!!
Usually for my friends, I put together a list of historical birthdays, events and holidays - and, Maxwell's blog is a big enough part of my life right now, that I thought it would be nice to share my little tradition. Of course, my selection of events is in no way comprehensive (for births I like to avoid death and destruction) or logical - but rather a bit eclectic.

Holidays: TeacherÂ’s Day in Taiwan.
Random Holiday: Ask a Stupid Question Day

Historical Events on this day:
1066 William the Conqueror invades England: the Norman Conquest begins.
1542 Navigator Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo of Portugal arrives as what is now San Diego, California, United States.
1867 Toronto becomes the capital of Ontario.
1871 Brazil passes law freeing future children of slavery.
1924 Two United States Army planes landed in Seattle, Washington, having completed the first round-the-world flight in 175 days.

Birthdays:
551 BC Confucius, Chinese philosopher (d. 479 BC)
1571 Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, Italian artist (d. 1610)
1901 Ed Sullivan, American television show host (d. 1974)
1915 Ethel Rosenberg, American Communist (d. 1953)
1934 Brigitte Bardot, French actress

Joy to the three of you.

"...Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable."

Felicitations from Montreal!

I remember my first girl's 25 hour labour like it was yesterday! Congrats for the bambino, and 'tho your long long long labour & delivery must have been quite baroque you might find (eventually) that it's a cool thing. My 2nd daughter's labour was 2 hrs, but I remember my first's the most fondly, with almost bittersweet nostalgia. (Ok, it's been 10 yrs!!!)

Rest, rest, rest SK. Until at least Christmas! Or your body will seriously rebel...Plus it takes the mind a while to wrap itself around the idea of a baby. Parents are superheroes, in the end.

Many blessings to your family! I'd love to see a picture of her nursery! :)

Here's my best parenting tip so far: if you want to sleep at night, keep the baby in the bed with you. You will feel so much better when you and the babe learn how to nurse lying down and you will get some real sleep after about a month. But, ultimately, do what your gut tells you to do. That's why we keep our baby in the bed even though we swore we wouldn't.

Good luck!!

I love how this beautiful event in Maxwell and SK's lives has inspired so many ATers to post on this thread. There are many AT names here I don't recognize, but it feels great to know that AT is such a large community, and we've all been waiting breathlessly for the arrival of little Baby G-R.

We're quite an international group!(from Bombay to Montreal to Switzerland and all the points in between). To all the above congratulations I add this heart-felt one from Thailand.

Congrats Maxwell and SK!! You've created something magical ...in your own lives, as well as in ours.

just had a lovely chinese dinner to celebrate the first birthday of my grandnephew. he has just visited niagara falls and can sign two words:

-- MORE
-- WATERFALL

he giggles like the quadruplets laughing over on YouTube when you say POOF. i mean, he laughs a lot.

babies make the sun rise and set. enjoy.
