HGTV Makes a Social Move

2-21-hgtv.jpgHGTV Gets Social Network - Not to be outdone by Flickr, MySpace or YouTube, HGTV has just announced plans to build their own social networking website within their existing site. It will include forums, "rate my room" pages, and the ability to upload your own images to the site. HGTV does some great things, but social networking? We shall see... (Thanks, Hana! For an existing social network that focuses on home-improvement and interior design, check out www.curbly.com

For the crowd concerned about design eye candy, here's Curbly, Central Roost, Decor Next Door and 30 Elm is about to launch. Even the house and home categories at Stylehive. The space is already getting crowded. But for eye candy, I like Flickr myself :)

I still think of HGTV as full of a ton of bad tacky design about 90% of the time. Doesn't appeal to me at all.

Since Maxwell appears on a few HGTV shows, I wondering whether he'll link AT to that?

Hmmm....

We knew when we started Decor Next Door - check it out at www.decornextdoor.com - that inevitably the larger media players like HGTV would adopt social features. But we believe strongly in our community of practitioners - home design lovers, smart professional designers. Getting those two group together was one of our goals, and we’re encouraged by what we’ve seen develop on the site.
