This is the view out the front of our apartment for the past few days (took the pic yesterday) on what would normally be sleepy Downing Street in the West Village. We are lucky enough to live almost across the street from Vado Diomande, the drummer who is still struggling to recover from anthrax poisoning that he contracted from animal hides. While Vado is in the hospital, this street has been shut down and teams of hazmat federal agents in white suits have been scrubbing down his building where anthrax WAS found. It's quite a scene. Small world, isn't it?

What's the reaction in the neighborhood to this?
Scarey stuff!
Must say -- will make me think twice about "sneaking in" a banned product purchased overseas next time I travel abroad. Just goes to show that those meanies at US Customs are actually watching out for our health and well-being!
I had this situation a couple of blocks down the street from me in October 2001.
Lotta changes in the 'hood...
I had this situation at my workplace in Oct 2001!
o cipro . . . the broad spectrum antibiotic that everyone took just in case . . . made everyone sick and sluggish
bleech!
thank the diosa that it's old-fashioned animal skin anthrax and not the weaponized laboratory version.
Very tiny world, indeed. I live a 4 minute walk from the middle school in Hastings-on-Hudson where he played the drums for the kiddies recently. They're ok. Hope he does ok.
I guess we all have to be careful. (But I thought the anthrax "stuff" died on the hides when they were dried? If he contracted anthrax prior the hides being dried, then how many people did he encounter before he became ill?)
I'm trigger happy with the keyboard. Sorry, I just read the link you supplied for Vido and have an answer to my question.
Jeez, I read one of the links (Villager) - Vado seems like an interesting guy. Hope he's OK soon.
This is the most telling photo I have seen in a while...it has been, and is happening all along, these cosidered "low -level" attacks on civilians...US.
WoW very Scary Stuff.
