It's near the end of Art Month and the February 5th issue of
New York includes a look at a 1,900 square foot loft in Soho designed for and around a couple's unique art collection. The piece by Wendy Goodman, entitled
Space Shifters, highlights the work of architects at

beautiful space. I watched the video when you featured it...
Are those floors wood painted white?
It's a beautiful space, but it feels a little too cold. Too much like a gallery where you can't touch anything - not a home.
floors are wood, bleached white
I like most of this space. I like the floors, the brick wall with that neat arched window and most of the furniture. The swinging wall panel to create a separate guest room area is a nice idea, although with 1900 square feet you would think you would have a dedicated guest room or at least an office that could be quickly converted into guest space.
I do not like the illuminated art installation, but art is subjective and this is obviously a special piece to the homeowners. Given the fact that they obviously love this piece they did a nice job making it a focal part of their loft.
Finally, my sister has a dog that looks just like that (black lab) and wisely has absolutely nothing white in her flat. The dog has loose jowls and slobbers all over the floor and furniture as well as leaving black hairs all over the place. Not the best kind/color dog for all-white digs.
who is the unlucky person who has to clean this place?
this is such a beautiful loft and story. thanks for sharing it! the architecture of this place is amazing - and i love how they've painted everything white. it really brings all focus to their masterpieces!
I have to agree that it is a beautiful space. However, I have a black lab and own nothing white, clean regularly and have dark wood floors. Despite my efforts to keep her nails trimmed, the old lab has scratched the floors up to the point that it is a little too wabi sabi for my tastes.
That dog must be there for show or is kept in a cage.
Correction:
The lab owns me and my partner.
I've always seen stark places like this and wondered if feel cold to live in, as sasha says above. I imagine it warms up with some oddities strewn about. Anyone that lives in such a place like to comment?
I don't get the comments from people who think the space would be cold. To me, it feels serene and peaceful to eliminate clutter (of objects, and of colors). I like the austerity of a place like this: it feels like a retreat from the hustle, bustle and helter-skelter of the street below. It's zen.
Horrible. Every piece of furniture doesn't stand at the same height, they all are lined up against the walls, protruding because of the different width (especially in picture #3). Truly horrible design mistakes.
They are all lacquered white, but they just don't blend together.
loki
The space is gorgeous, but the all-whjte thing is very 80s, esp. combined with track lighting. It's simultaneously lovely and dated.
