apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Inside Neverland Ranch
The New York Times

When the co-owners of Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch opened the doors to the public yesterday, The New York Times photographer Jim Wilson was there. Though the 13,000 square foot main house and the grounds were cleared out 5 years ago, the evidence of an opulent lifestyle is still in place (ferris wheel footings, gold-plated bathroom fixtures, gigantic home theater, the train station, etc)...

The French Chateau style main house is virtually unchanged in the 20+ years that Jackson has owned the property and it's interesting to see the bones of a home that was on the cutting edge in celebrity style at the time.

See the related story: Neverland, Old Neighbors and New Visitors and the full slide show, Inside Neverland Ranch.

Enough of this MJ crap please -
The guy was a living trainwreck - an example for how NOT to live your life.

I am a little sick of reading about this overrated, overpaid, egotistical, drug addicted waste of time.

But his house was sure beautiful.

This is way nicer than Graceland.

At least this post is more decor/home-related, unlike some of the others. I'm also surprised at the level of vitriol for a dead pop star. Seriously, folks.

I agree with slowdown and mfpants. Chill with the hatin'.

Neverland is rather nice sans furnishings. Reminds me of Skywalker Ranch.

Why are you so easily angered by a dead person you've never met?

whether he was good or bad, talented or overrated, sober or drug-dependent-- he was a fascinating individual simply because he operated further outside the boundaries of normal social conduct than possibly anyone else (of notoriety) on earth, and a glimpse inside his decadent, mysterious, bizarre, extravagant money-pit of a vacation home seems relevant to folks with an interest in not only mj but interior design.

Not as gaudy as I'd imagined it would be... thanks for posting, AT. That gnarly tree pic is especially cool.

I appreciate the look inside, and I agree with others who note that it's homey and not as gaudy as one might have imagined.

For people who don't want to see/hear anything else about Michael Jackson, go read a book. They still make those, you know.

It certainly is a beautiful place. Too bad it is so empty and lonely looking.

he had a vision for this place - and he carried it out and helped a lot of people - please, don't judge the man until you have walked a mile in his shoes and you are CERTAIN of the truth of his life - let him rest in peace. geesh.

Seriously? Whether this post is MJ related or not - is this not AT? Is the post not related to what AT is about overall? Comment on what the post is about and that's inside Neverland Ranch - not how wierd MJ was!

On that note...the outside is beautiful, but the inside is Pinesol's worst nightmare!!
