apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

January is Art Month!

2006-1-pollock.jpgWe're back, and wow, what a lot of activity! We haven't even finished getting through the amazingly long open thread from Friday, but kudos go to YOU, dear readers, for carrying on our mission (ie. "changing the world, one apartment at a time") on your own (or shall we say "one long chat at a time?")

This month we dedicate to ART, meaning where you find good art, who makes it and how you get it framed or mounted.

Art is so important to the home.

But while we always recommend that clients avoid posters and cheap prints in favor of original, handmade or quality pieces, it is not always easy to find things that you like. We hope to continue to solve that problem this month. In our Stores Guide - artwork you will already find a list of good art resources, and in our Services Guide - artists, you will find a small, but growing list of good artists that sell their work directly.

If you have any tips, send them in and we'll blog them.

I highly recommend Tiny Showcase-they've recently expanded their limited editions to 100, from 50 (I have mixed feelings about this) but its a great, affordable way to support young artists and often charities.

Yes! Welcome back, Maxwell! I had gotten just the tiniest bit less obsessed with checking the site during that time; glad you're back!

I think the streets of New York City is full of great art. I actually find good stuff on the streets on Sunday around Spring and West Broadway. Some of it is junk or just replicated stuff you will see everywhere, but much of it is from good artists. The artists love to talk to you and explain their process. I was even able to commission a piece which is now the centerpiece of our living room.

Elizabeth Schuppe is an amazing painter. i first found out about her stuff in a Glamour home makeover article. (her artwork was in all the "after" photos)

it's perfect for the AT readers. and from what i hear, her prices aren't too high yet.
