Apartment Therapy is going over the bridge. When we came out of ICFF we were handed leaflets for the real action over the bridge in Brooklyn. This is where the lower rents, and the accompanying new stores and designers are setting up shop. We have heard about a bunch of cool stores, but haven't had the time to get over there. This month, were buying a new MetroCard and doing our homework. If you want to recommend a store for us to take a look at, send us an email and we'll add it to our list of places we want to visit. BTW someone recommended YU, but we haven't been able to find it or get an address. Any leads, anyone?

The closest subway stop is the C train to Lafayette, Fort Greene. The prices can sometimes be on the higher side but fair and the very cool people that work there have a great selection of vintage furniture and new goods. It's worth checking out as a great resource for unique pieces. There are some other great studios in the area but I don't believe they have public studios...I'll let you know what I find out. Regardless, you should just walk around Fort Greene, especially along Lafayette Avenue and Fort Greene Park because it is beautiful. You will definitely find enough flower box winners to last the entire summer!!
Williamsburg and Dumbo definitely have a lot of brilliant designers--I find Dumbo to be especially to be especially inspiring but the rents keep going higher and higher. The waterfront is quirky and beautiful--get take-out from Rice and some chocolates from Jacques Torres and bring it to the waterfront park between the two bridges--that's my favorite thing to do.)
Is Long Island City next? Check out this site: www.rwrightmandesign.com. (I think his designs are wonderful, there is a lot going on LIC as well.)
Here's some more Brooklyn design.
I guess tags don't work in these comments.

is some more Brooklyn design.
this weekend is the Brooklyn Design Fair in Dumbo - at St. Ann's Warehouse and 37 Main Street. see http://www.brooklyndesigns.net/index.htm for more info.
also there are a couple of furniture designers on the 2nd floor of 20 Jay Street, Brooklyn, Ny, such as Jonah Zuckerman - you may need an appointment to see them though. I think they may be involved with Brooklyn Design Fair.
