Look! Pumpkins in the Met & Ghost Pumpkins Outside

punkin4.jpg
Matt, ever on the lookout for the little (and big) ways that nature creeps into our city, sent us these pics yesterday of the latest flower displays at his workplace, The Met. Here's what he says:

Here are a few pictures I snapped on my way in. I think it looks festive. This has become an annual tradition at the museum and really makes everything look spooky.

story.white.pumpkins.ap.jpgIn other news, white pumpkins have become very popular. I think that the coolest part is the orange flesh inside. I bet they look great with candles!

White pumpkins? Ghost pumpkins? Caspers? Baby Boos? Has Martha covered this yet? (Thanks, Matt!)

Ah, but just something's "been around" doesn't mean it's always been "in".

It's nice to know that us New Yorkers haven't discovered everything yet! I can't seem to find the white pumpkins anywhere, though - only the baseball-sized 'baby boo' ones. I think the two AT sites will eventually become a great place to compare these coastal differences.

KG - do many people decorate with the white pumpkins? Are they more popular than the orange ones?

I love the white pumpkins, but also would think it stange to see no orange ones on Halloween...

The Martha was all over white pumpkins in her November magazine. She hollowed out the little ones to hold taper candles.

When we stopped at Nugget last week (upscale supermarket in the Sacramento area), they were awash in little white pumpkins, as well as mid-sized beige ones. I feel a vague desire for a completely white-and-beige fall centerpiece, but the dining table is dedicated to making Xmas presents, alas.
