Luxurychair.com Bummer!

11-10-task-office2.jpgOur upstairs neighbors at our new office are renovating and subsequently have been reading the blog. They just sent this in. It's about Luxurychair.com, which we haven't covered yet. It seems to be a great resource for those high priced task chairs everyone wants, so consider this report a grain of salt.

Dear AT,

Just wanted to alert you to a horrible shopping experience we've had with Luxurychair.com. Given that many of your readers are furniture geeks like us, they might find this useful.

Our office was in need of two more Eames Aluminum Group Management chairs (black leather). We did some research online looking at pricing and availability. We came across a company called Luxurychair.com that was offering an amazing deal. These chairs typically retail for $1,200 but they were offering them for the amazing price of $774. .....

Prior to purchasing from luxurychair.com, we were assured by Jenny (their friendly salesperson) that we were purchasing brand new, authentic Herman Miller Eames Aluminum Group Management Chairs (in black leather). She assured me they were in stock and would ship soon after we placed our order.

Why were they offering such amazing prices?....

She said they sold in such extreme volume that they're able to offer them at these reduced prices.

On October 20th, immediately after placing our order, our credit card was charged for the two chairs ($1,548.00). Despite assurances they would ship right away, it took them 16 days (and several follow-up phone calls and emails) to ship just one of the chairs. This past Monday, November 7, we received the first of the two chairs. To our dismay, the chair was an unauthentic counterfeit with several significant differences in both appearance and construction from the authentic Herman Miller chair (and it was clearly different than the photo listed on their web site, which is an authentic Herman Miller chair). While the counterfeit chair might look authentic to the average person, here's exactly how it differs from the originals:

· Different (cheaper looking) black leather used on counterfeit chair (it might be vinyl, not sure).
· Counterfeit chair has stitched leather---our authorized chairs are not stitched.
· Adjustment lever on the counterfeit is clearly different than ours and is located on the front (should be on the back of chair).
· Sizing is slightly different (with counterfeit chair being narrower on top).
· Base construction of the counterfeit is clearly different from our Eames chairs.
· Counterfeit arms are slightly different in shape and build.
· There were no corresponding Herman Miller certificates with these chairs and no warranty information (these came with our other chairs).

Immediately after receiving the counterfeit chair, I spoke with Levi Cohen (owner of Luxurychair.com) who informed me there must have been a ‘mix-up.’ Mr. Cohen told me he would send the authentic chairs right away. That same day, we shipped back the counterfeit chair (which was no small feat given that our building's elevator is out and we're on the sixth floor). After several unanswered calls and emails to Luxurychair.com, I finally got a hold of Mr. Cohen who today (11/6/05) told me the authentic Herman Miller chairs were conveniently "unavailable." This was interesting as I had a friend call luxurychair.com yesterday afternoon who was assured the chairs were authentic AND in stock ready to ship. After bringing this to Mr. Cohen's attention, they have since posted a notice on their site that they're out-of-stock? Hmm...

I am awaiting a full credit to my credit card, which they have promised will occur in the next 24 hours. I'll let you know if this doesn't go through. Regardless, I can't believe the blatant fraud and deception with which Luxurychair.com and Mr. Cohen attempt to sell their merchandise.

How odd is it that they 'accidentally' shipped me a counterfeit chair! If the price is too good to be true, it probably is (we've learned our lesson).

This story also needs to be told to the properly licensed manufacturer of the authentic chair. Selling counterfeits as genuine is potentially a crime, but in the cases where the NYPD has dramatically raided the warehouses of, say, distributors of fake designer handbags, the company that makes the genuine ones has usually been pushing for the investigation. And they do push, for obvious reasons.

travis,
you should call the police and herman miller. it is obviously a counterfeit and these guys should be stopped. the only way to do that is by throwing them in jail.

Had they just called them "knock-offs" and not tried to pass them off as originals, nobody would have had a problem...

Uh-oh. I purchased a "Knoll Life Chair" from luxurychair.com a while back. I didn't have the benefit of an authentic chair here to compare it to. I did notice that the arms seemed low quality for such a high end chair, but I didn't think a whole lot of it.

After reading this post, I was determined to find out for sure, and my conclusion is that mine is also a knock off. So, what now? It's been more than 30 days, but I also paid nearly 600 dollars for a cheap imitation!

I did talk to Herman Miller and reported the incident to the Better Business Bureau. And they did refund my credit card the entire purchase price. But what a hassle!

I'm not sure I'm on board with the whole "let's go public with this expose kind of story" when, ultimately, it was resolved to your ultimate satisfaction, especially since more people read the opener of "evil counterfeiters stole my money" and far fewer make it to the end of a long thread to read "oh, and by the way, all my money was refunded".

And I agree it's important for people to know what they are buying (original, knock-off or counterfeit presented as an original), so I think this article has ultimate merit. But I also think it's important to represent the entire process up front when giving the story such a public airing. A similar thing happened on a recent contractor thread, even that was pretty much in the process of getting rectified.

Also, and I am not being hoity toity here. Purchasing something sight unseen for such a significantly lower price, in my modest opinion, should reek of a knock off/counterfeit situation...

Patrick:

While I was fairly confident I would get our money back (either through a Luxurychair.com refund or through Amex taking care of it), my point in posting it was to warn other people to avoid the dishonest retailer. Prior to purchasing the chairs through them, I did an extensive Google search on luxurychair.com and didn't see any feedback (negative or positive). Had I read something like this, I wouldn't have wasted my time with them.

I would hope that anyone who has had something similar happen--at any retailer--would also say someting (and not keep it to themselves). That's what make's eBay's feedback system so great.

Like I said, selling knock-offs as originals takes them into counterfeit territory, and for that I value the post and the fact you outed them as such.

Since you ended up getting a refund, I don't think they deserve to be slammed for customer service issues, and the original post did not get to that detail, making it seem like they were guilty of counterfeiting AND refusing to make your sitation right, which they ultimately did (even though you remain chairless).

I was a bit weary at first ordering from luxurychair.com not finding to much customer feedback on the web, but with the price difference over the other websites I decided to take my chances. I called in and spoke with Sara who was very polite and helpful and got me a better price then listed on the website being that this was a quantity order. as advised it took two weeks to receive the chair all came in excellent condition beside one which the box was busted up, I called Sara at who arranged for UPS to come and pick up the damaged chair and received a replacement a week later. I understand the original poster being upset and venting but I thinks it only fair that everyone hears about the good experiences too, from what I know about this company the chair where authentic (as far as I can tell) and the customer service was very good.

I ordered 2 Aerons from LuxuryChair.com and got them within 1 1/2 weeks of placing my order. I spoke with a woman in the office who was delightful on the phone and the chairs were in immaculate condition.

I have to agree with Patrick (the other one). I don't think its fair to give all the negative without showing how the issue was resolved. I shop on the internet a lot and I purchase from major companies such as Levenger and even Target and I have found horrible reviews about both (some even worse than this one). However, most customers will post a neutral feedback if they received all of their money back and they were not put out too much.

When I see reviews such as the one in question, I normally assume that the writer is a bitter buyer. I don't agree with selling knock-offs but I also don't agree with only telling half truths...seems to me that there is someone else in the wrong here.

My name is Sherry, and I'm actually a customer service representative at Luxurychair.com My friend stumbled onto this site while looking for office furniture, and forwarded it to me.

I was so shocked to read Travis's horrible testimony about Luxurychair, that I decided to respond. I am very familiar with Travis's order, and I want to recount EXACTLY what had transpired between Travis and Luxurychair.com

Travis ordered 2 Eames Management Chairs from my company. The chairs were authentic and arrived in perfect condition. However, he wanted to return the chairs and was told about the shipping fee for the return. Travis, at first, decided to keep the chair but then called back a day later claiming the chairs were knock-offs and didnt want to pay the return shipping fee for them.

It was obvious that Travis was claiming fraud to get out of paying the return shipping cost. He stated more than once that his purchase was "too big for his pockets" . He may have gotten cold feet about spending so much money on the chairs, or maybe he found a better deal some place else.

Travis called twice a day for a period of a week and half trying to get out of the return shipping fee by claiming the chairs were not authentic. At some point, a supervisor at the company decided to give him a full credit back with shipping, just to close the matter.

If there was any "fraud" done with this order it was by Travis, not Luxurychair.com. For Travis to get an unwarranted full refund back for his purchase and post this fabricated story, is shocking and disheartening.

Luxurychair.com is a legitimate company. I opted to respond only because I feel a great injustice has been done. People like Travis should not get away with trying to bully their way out of situations by threatening to write an expose on a company.

We are all entitled to use the internet as a tool to receive and transmit information. Let's not abuse that power by threatening to spread false information to get what we want.

PS. The gentleman with the Knoll chair(KB) can be assured that his chair is completely authentic. You can call Knoll and give them your serial number to confirm this. Luxurychair.com is ready to fully compensate you with a brand new knoll chair, purchased at a dealership, if you can prove your chair is a knock-off. That's how confident we are about our products.

I read the above comments about Luxurychairs.com so when I spoke with the sale rep there (Sara) I made sure to take notes on what she promised. She said there would be no marks on the chairs except possibly the casters, and that the ship time on the Aeron chairs was 7 - 10 business days. (I need this chair for a Christmas present so that was important.)

After the conversation, I wrote her an email asking her to confirm the shipping timeline with the guarantee that I could refuse shipment if it was not met (I was just trying to hold them to their word).

She at first refused saying the info was on the web site, then she sent back a form email saying they estimate 7 -10 days, but cannot guaranteed.

I called her back to ask if she could at least guarantee that she would have UPS pick it up today or tomorrow (I realize she cannot control how long it took UPS to take the chair from NY to CA.)

It FINALLY came out that the chair would not be picked up by UPS until at least Thursday and possibly not until after the weekend (and it is currently Tuesday AM).

I realize delivery times may not be important to some - this is more of an issue of credibility.

I just placed the order for the chair with the competitor that Sara bad mouthed during my initial conversation. He promised to ship it today. In fact, I just rec'd the order confo by email and the UPS tracking number was promised by the end of the day.

Sorry for the long-winded post - I just can't stand people that misrepresent the truth.

Coming back as I promised with details about my order from Luxurychair.com. I did find this blog before I placed an order and I said I would let everyone know how I came out. I ordered two chairs that are called Aeron Chairs and if anyone knows anything about office chairs, these are the ones to get right now.

I was given a 2-4 week delivery time for both of these chairs. I got a call from a customer service rep who wanted to let me know that because I had ordered my chairs with certain specifications, that is was going to ship a bit faster. (something like 12-14 business days or something)just a note here: I thought it was nice of them to call and let me know. Good ole' fashioned customer service.

I now have my chairs, and I have to be honest here...I can't complain. These chairs came brand new and shiny. I like em so I think I'll keep em. I'll let everyone know how they hold up. I hear that a lot of people don't like Aerons...say they are scratchy but I guess we'll see! Happy hunting.

What up apartmentherapy readers! It's Travis (the originator of this story). Just wanted to post a concluding entry to our Herman Miller buying experience...

After being totally shocked and appalled by luxurychair.com (I still can't believe the libelous entry made above by them), we went ahead and ordered the chairs from Highbrow Furniture: http://highbrowfurniture.com/

The buying experience with Highbrow was simple and pleasant. The chairs shipped the next day, and we had them via FedEx Ground a couple of days later.

The box and packaging we received from Highbrow all included the Herman Miller logo. The chairs also had attached Herman Miller instructions/legal info. The packaging for the knock-off chairs from Luxurychair had none of these things.

More importantly, the chairs we received from Highbrow were the authentic Herman Miller Eames Management Chairs. Their appearance and build are exact to the other four Herman Miller chairs we have in our office. As noted in my original post, the knock-off Luxurychair.com chair had several cosmetic and construction differences from the original.

While Luxurychair.com might be able to scam people for a while, the truth will ultimately prevail.

Just to put my two cents in... I had a lousy experience with Luxurychair.com as well. I ordered a Herman Miller Aeron chair for my dad for Christmas. I was initially given a time frame of 2-4 wks. I've bought a number of things online before and have been given somewhat extended time frames, only to receive the product in a few days, so about a week later I inquired via e-mail about the status of the order. They replied confirming the order, but they tried to bait and switch me by saying that because of the long shipping time, they'd been "authorized" to offer me an upgrade to a LEATHER (they used all-caps in the e-mail) Aeron chair which could ship immediately. That kind of piqued my curiosity since part of my understanding of the Aeron chair was that the pellicle mesh was one of the design stand-out points. Sure enough, I check the Herman Miller website and I can't find anything about an all leather Aeron chair as an option, let alone an "upgrade." It's either an after-market 3rd party "upgrade" or a fake.

In any case, I replied to the e-mail confirming that I really did just want the original Aeron chair I ordered. They then responded with an e-mail stating that I had originally been given an estimate of 10-12 business days, but my chair was scheduled to ship the next week. When nothing happened the next week I inquired again via e-mail. They replied the next day (12/21/05) and said my order was scheduled to ship that day.

Sure enough, I received an e-mail with a UPS number. However, when I entered the number on the UPS tracking website, it just said that a number was issued because UPS had received billing information, but that this in no way indicated that they had received or picked up the merchandise for shipping. The UPS website continued to list the "tracking" info in this manner until the product finally shipped on 1/6/06. As a sidenote, UPS indicated that they had received the billing info on 12/5/05.

In the meantime, I finally called customer service. I had noticed that after Christmas the price had dropped a little. Since my order still hadn't been shipped but they had charged my card I wanted to see if I could get the difference refunded. When I spoke with them: they got my order date wrong (it was 12/1/05 but they insisted it was 12/5/05). They also continually referred to the 2-4 weeks originally quoted rather than all of the revised times and promises. They finally took my phone number and promised to call when the product shipped and to let me know if their supervisor would authorize the price difference refund.

Well, I never received the phone call or the refund. But my dad did get a chair...damaged!

According to him, someone had obviously pounded on the back to try and get the Posturefit to fit. In the process they had broken a screw, making it difficult to remove the piece.

At this point, I just wanted to send the chair back and suck up the cost of losing the shipping fee and paying the return shipping fee but deny Luxurychair the bulk of my money. However, my dad had a connection with Herman Miller, having done some consulting work for them in the past, and was able to secure a replacement part rather easily (after all this, I wish he had been able to secure a whole chair in the 1st place!).

So I decided to let things lie, with the exception of going to every business rating website I could find so I could leave negative feedback...and hence this long diatribe!

One last note though...in my dad's conversations with his contact at Herman Miller he was told that Herman Miller was well aware of Luxurychair, that Luxurychair had taken liberties with the use of the Herman Miller company name and that Luxurychair has been more than blacklisted by Herman Miller.

Lesson to be learned...buyer beware of Luxurychair! (I sure learned my lesson).

I am posting to this thread in an effort to share some facts and not taking sides on the discussion above because the issue is not whether or not someone received good customer service or not or whether they were happy or not with the product they received the issue is that LuxuryChair.com is NOT an authorized reseller of anything Herman Miller! That includes Aeron Chairs, Eames products, Nelson products, or any other copyrighted and trademarked products Herman Miller manufactures and or has exclusive rights to and by the way pays a lot of money to retain those rights. (To find a list of authorized resellers, like Highbrow or DWR you only need to visit www.hermanmiller.com and pull up a list or call their toll-free number 800-646-4400 and ask).

By using the names and or images of said items they are in violation of copyright and trademark laws. When a company represents themselves as selling authorized products and they are not an authorized reseller they are either A: selling knock-offs positioned as authentic products, B: are selling new authentic products procured by questionable means (bootlegged) or C: selling used products positioned as new.

Also, the buyer should be aware that when purchasing products from unauthorized resellers the product warranty is void and not honored by the company – So for Aeron Chairs purchased from Luxury Chair that 12 year warranty does not exist. When a retailer sells a product in the likeness of a “designer” product and or uses the name of the designer or product name in selling knock-offs, you may not know the designer received no compensation for his/her work. You maybe aware of the campaign Hollywood is engaged in with pirated movies – you wouldn’t steal a car or rob a bank – it’s the same thing with buying knock-offs or bootlegs of any product – you are hurting our economy and supporting illegal activities. Plus, many people also feel “ripped-off” when they do find out they could have spent a few hundred dollars more and purchased a product that will increase in value and become an heirloom and carries a wonderful warranty, rather than a second rate reproduction that carries no lasting value. There is a reason that resellers want to use the name Eames or Herman Miller when trying to sell products, it’s because they know the association with these brands will net them more money from unsuspecting customers. Ever search for mid-century products on e-bay and find a zillion “Eames Era or Eames like” titles – it’s because that is what carries lasting value. People like Luxury Chair are smart – they have to be to keep pulling the wool over customer’s eyes – so you as a consumer have to be smarter. And once you do know all the facts it’s your decision to support and line the pockets of people like Luxury Chair with your hard earned dollars or buy the REAL THING from people who have invested in true and lasting value.

My adventure with LuxuryChair began last November when I wanted to order an Aeron chair. Sara (you know her) convinced me to try out a Steelcase chair instead since the Aeron was temporarily out of stock. If I didn't like the Steelcase, I could return it for free. The chair shipped promptly and I tried it out but didn't like it as much as the Aeron. I contacted Sara and had the chair returned, free of charge as promised. So far, so good. I then told them to change my order to the Aeron chair, but since the delivery date was going to be when I was away on vacation, I told them to deliver after Jan. 16. When I returned on the 16th, there was no notice of a tracking number. I emailed LuxuryChair and they told me they would ship in a couple days, which they did. The chair arrived the following week. When I tried it out, I discovered there was something wrong with the tilt adjuster. Being an engineer, I investigated and found that a part was missing from the internal tilt mechanism. I sent email and photos to Samantha at LuxuryChair and she said they would send the part out last Monday (Feb. 6) by USPS. As of today (Feb. 13), no part. In the meantime, I discovered that the pellicle mesh was not as taut as my other Aeron chairs, and of course the Herman Miller labels were missing from the chair. I can live with the mesh since I'm not a heavy person, but if the missing part doesn't show up, I may have to try to return the chair. Throughout all of this, there was just enough delay in the replies from LuxuryChair that I was starting to suspect they were some kind of fly-by-night outfit. After reading other people's stories here, I can see why I had reason to worry. If they truly are a reputable firm, I hope they will try harder to address their customers' needs.

I recently attempted to buy an Aeron from luxurychair.com. Two days after I had placed my order an operator called me to inform me that their Aeron's were on back-order for 8-12 weeks. She offered me a 'special free upgrade' to a leather Leap chair at no additional charge. I like the Leap chair and I didn't want to wait, so I agreed. When the Leap chair* arrived, the arms were very worn and made terrible screeching noises when I tried to adjust them. The dilapidated box in which the chair had been shipped did not contain a return slip.

I called luxurychair.com and the operator gave me the run-a-round** for more than twenty minutes before finally putting me through to a manager, Sarah, who assured me there had been a terrible mistake which she would remedy immediately. Sarah promised I would receive a return slip the next day. It never came. Instead I received a DHL 2-day shipping slip (not even a ground slip, which would have saved me some money) three days later. Sarah also said she'd refund my money immediately. She didn't. She later said I would receive a refund for the cost of the chair upon it's arrival at their Brooklyn warehouse.

Assuming they eventually credit me with the cost of the chair, the net result of my experience with luxurychair.com includes:

1) Loss of $160 in shipping charges (75 + 85)

2) Loss of 5 or 6 hours of my time--in between I ran around to UPS and FedEx stores trying to send the chair back, but lost heart upon reading luxurychair.com's disclaimer that they would only accept a chair packed in the original shipping materials.

3) More aggravation than I have ever experienced dealing with a retailer.

I've made more than a million dollars as a professional poker player in the last 14 months, and luxury chair has cost me several thousand dollars in opportunity cost. Therefore, I am pledging up to $1500 and/or 4 hours of my time to do whatever I can to shut these crooks down. If you have any creative ideas, please let me know.

For example, I'd sponsor 50 man hours, at $30/hr, to 'get the word out' on luxurychair.com. I'm serious. If you can help me set this up, shoot me an email at mcherack@princeton.edu.

Oh, and I had a very good experience ording a couple office chairs from samflaxny.com.

*having read other accounts of dealings with luxurychair.com, I cannot be certain this was a genuine leap chair

**the operator told me I could not drop the chair off at their physical location, as their warehouse in NY was too big. She said that I could, however, drop the chair off at their warehouse in Florida.

Re: The post by Luxurychair.com's Sherry, which I have just now read

1) At this point I will not accept the promised (and then implicitly rescinded) reimbursement for my return shipping costs, should luxurychair.com offer it, lest they suggest that this is what motivated my complaint.

2) Luxurychair.com MISREPRESENTED the product they sold me. Indeed, that misrepresentation occurs in FINE PRINT on their website--I thought I was buying new. Then, they made it exceedingly DIFFICULT TO RETURN their SHODDY MERCHANDISE.

3) I am a appalled that they would attack Travis, rather than take resposibility for their deplorable business practices. I dare them to try that same tack with me.

It was unfortunate for luxurychair.com, and for me, that I happened upon their fraudulent enterprise unawares. But I did. And the damage has been done.

Now I'm willing to go to considerable lengths to protect others from their scam.

I too am having a very bad experience with luxurychair.com. I originally purchased a Contessa Teknion chair from their website. There price was about in line with other sites I could findoffering the chair so I placed my order on February 27, 2006. After initially receiving an automatic confirmation that they got my order, I never had any additional follow up or status by email or by checking on their website. So finally, on March 23, I send an email to the company asking about the status. They don't respond until March 27. They say that my chair is scheduled to ship sometime that week. They promise I will receive another notification with the tracking number.

Well, you guessed it, another week goes by. I send another email. This time, I'm contacted by a Jennifer Coplin at luxurychair.com. She tells me that they deal directly with the Teknion factory in Canada and are notified of the order status each week and they had a scheduled ship date of my chair for the week before; however, Teknion called to tell them there would be an additional delay due to a part that is missing. She'll let me know when there's an update.

I ask if a discount would be in order for the delay. She eventually comes back with a $30 offer. I accept and continue to wait.

April 24th, I email Jennifer since I hadn't heard anything since nor have I received the discount. At this point, I found this website of complaints. I decide to send another amail copying lcohen@luxurychair.com (the supposed owner) and Teknion company itself. Must have hit the right nerve, Jennifer finally confesses, my order never got placed due to some mistake and all this time everything they were telling me wasn't true. Although she still claims that the model chair I ordered was on delay for their "other" orders. She asks if I want full refund or could wait a few more weeks while they redo my order. I also get an email from someone at Teknion saying they don't know luxurychair.com but offers to help expidite my order if I can get her a tracking number. I forward this email to Jennifer and decide I can be patient a little longer. I give them a second chance to get my order completed. Jennifer apologizes and promises to stay on top of this and expidite matters.

May 14, I'm feeling like a real fool. No updates from Jennifer yet. I send an email to her requesting status. She respons that their "rep" has taken over 8 days to get back to her to place my order. Does this mean my order is still not placed!!! I ask her if she ever followed up with the contact I gave her at Teknion that offered to help. She didn't, but is willing to do so now. I bet!! I've fired off another volley of emails to Mr. Cohen (assuming he really exists) who has never responded to me from the first time. I also copy the woman at Teknion who's offered help.

I apologize for the chopiness of my account of this event, I'm obviously upset over it. I also feel like I'm a chump for not requesting a full refund and leaving it at that. I'm concerned that all I'm going to end up with is a fake or used chair. If I ever even get a chair at all. At this point who knows. I am hoping to talk to someone at luxurychair tomorrow (Jennifer's supervisor or Mr. Cohen). After seeing this sight and all the complaints, I may just ask for a full refund.

I'm not one to bad mouth a company typically, but this has been the absolute worst experience I have ever had. If you are considering using luxurychair.com, all I can say is don't.

Hi,

I just received my fake chair today. Too bad I did not see this website BEFORE I ordered it. Anyways I called my VISA to see if there is anything they can do and it turns out there isn't.

Anyways, I have a plan. I will call them every day (sometimes twice a day if I am bored) and speak to the person on the other end. Be really friendly and tell them that they are working for an evil company and they should quit. If we all do that it will really have an effect.

Please be aware that luxurychair.com is also operating under trendychair.com. Same used chairs being passed as brand new ones, same deceptive tactics – same people.

I ordered two Pavilion chairs and two Herman Miller Aeron chairs. And the nightmare began.

They had our money right away, though we waited and waited and waited for our purchase. Despite the several phone calls that ended with promises that they'll be shipped "tomorrow," the Pavilion chairs came over a month later. And the Aeron chairs came over two months later!

When the "Pavilion Chairs" arrived, we were shocked. This is not the chair we've tested at furniture stores across the city. It was VINYL!!! The piping was hard, and the seats were uncomfortable. One of the chairs was crooked! And the cushions were oversized for the metal base. Not to mention, the boxes were stamped "Made in China."

Needless to say, we shipped them back right away. We dealt with Levi Cohen. He said he was so sorry and would send us a shipping label right away. We told him we were still waiting for the Aeron chairs, and he said he'd ship them out tomorrow. A month and a half later, we were back on the phone asking where our Aeron chairs were. By the way, it's been over a month, and still no refund for the Pavilion chairs.

Finally, the "Aeron Chairs" arrived. You may want to sit down for this. The first chair's hydraulic lift didn't work. The second chair's seat surface felt like sandpaper, and was flaking off from underneath! Plus, the graphite frame was scratched and chipped. Hair was lodged in the scuffed up wheels. Both chairs' frames were dull and worn; the free "leather" armrests were cheaply machine-stitched vinyl (Herman Miller leather armrests are only meticulously hand-stitched); the seats had no bounce at all; the warranty stickers were torn off the bottom of the seats; and the chairs were stamped as being manufactured in 1998. We waited over two months for this!!!

At this point, paying the extra $300 per chair at an authorized Herman Miller dealer was no problem for us. We immediately called > and ordered authentic Herman Miller chairs. We had them in our home 2 hours later. The difference between the real deal and LuxuryChair.com's chairs was astonishing.

We talked with LuxuryChair.com about returning these chairs. They did fax us the return labels right away, but have to review our list of defects and the chairs to determine if they'll pay the shipping costs. If they don't pay now, they'll pay in court.

The store we used to get our new Aeron chairs was homeofficesolutions.com - an authorized Herman Miller dealer. (It didn't come through on my last posting.) I worked with Chris. He was great to work with. And the chairs are perfect.

I 100% agree with Travis.
On June 9th, 2006, immediately after placing my order, my credit card was charged for the chair. I was assured this would ship within 3weeks. I even received an email telling me the order is shipping 1 week early. When the week past I called again, I called and spoke with Levi Cohen (owner of Luxurychair.com) who informed me there must have been a ‘mix-up.’ Mr. Cohen told me my chair would be shipping out in the next two days. Every day, For the last two weeks, I was told” your chair is shipping today” “Your chair is shipping tomorrow” “You will have the shipping info. within the hour” “I’ll call you back in five minutes” “Our systems are down, call back in 20 minutes” etc...
After I asked for a refund, I was put on hold, for various lengths of time each I was told “Your refund will be credited today” ”Your refund should show tomorrow” “ For sure by Monday you’ll have the money in you account” “We’ll send you an email when we issue the refund” “Then came “You need to speak to Levi for a refund”- After several unanswered calls and emails to Luxurychair.com, I finally got a hold of Mr. Cohen who today (7/14/06) told me the refund will be issued, and transferred me back to another employee- who told me “We will send you an email”
I since have disputed the claim with my credit card, figuring it was the only way I would ever see my refund. I completely agree with this statement “I can't believe the blatant fraud and deception with which Luxurychair.com and Mr. Cohen attempt to sell their merchandise.”
Luxurychair.com is just a scam. They live off the interest made between selling and forced refunds, or just as posted earlier sell knock offs as the real products.

I was just about to purchase a HumanScale Freedom chair from LuxuryChair.com, but thanks to all of you, I cancelled. I've read all of the negative posts and the few "positives" - which were obviously written by the same person from LuxuryChair... pathetic. They are not only scamming chairs, but they are scamming postings!

I agree that there will always be a few "bad experiences" with any vendor, but to have the vendor on message boards posting fake "positive" messages is pathetic and an assurance that they cannot be trusted.

We unfortunately paid with a corporate check, against my advise. I was instructed by Herman Miller that Levi Cohen opens up new businesses doing the same scam continually. They told me to contact the attorney general in my area and BBB. These chairs were for the company I work for. I feel like a complete idiot, hope I have a job next week.

Just wondering if this gal Kimberly works for Herman Miller, I bought several times from Luxurychair and was completely satisfied and received the chairs for 30% cheaper then at any Herman Miller dealer, it seems as though Herman Miller has big issues with Luxurychair. They dont claim to be HM dealers and they give thier own warranty for thier chairs.

This web sight only serves as a way to bash competition when you dont want to face them.

What's all this crap about Luxurychair, if you have a issue with Luxurychair why dont you just deal with them directly, they have been around for many years.

They carry a new line from Italy called the Link chair which knocks the socks off the aeron any time.
Why dont you guys (Herman Miller dealers) GROW UP, a little competition wont kill you guys.

We bought 2 "Herman Miller Aluminum Group" chairs in 2005 from LuxuryChair.com for opening a new art gallery. We were told they were authentic Herman Miller. The price was very attractive, almost too hard to believe.

Well it was too hard to believe because these are cheap imitations, not particularly stable and one is currently unable to sit up. Claiming them to be Herman Miller was clearly dishonest.

It's truly pathetic that Luxurychair.com is posting positive comments about itself and trying to act like these negative comments are coming from authorized Herman Miller retailers. You might have been able to scam people prior to the web, but now the power is with the people (who are clearly pissed that you've screwed them).

FYI Levi Cohen (and your cohorts), it ruins your credibility when you post (using different names) two positive comments within two or three minutes of each other. You should at least wait five or ten minutes to look semi-authentic. Even at that, your pathetic attempt to legitimize your company only digs you into a deeper and deeper hole.

p.s.,
Trendychair .com is the same sleezy, scam of a company. Don't get screwed by trendychair, luxurychair, or Levi Cohen. Google, are you indexing this? Power to the people.

Dear Mark Abrams (aka Levi Cohen)

There's a big difference between having a poor shopping experience with Amazon and the purposefully deceptive, fraudulent and dishonest business practices perpetrated by luxurychair (and trendychair).

Any potential customers of your disreputable companies need only scan the above listed complaints (and false positive comments) to tell the clear difference.

Power to the people.

Dear luxurychairsucks.

You really are pathetic. Is http://www.luxurychair.com affecting your business so much you would stoop to the bottom of the barrel and actually invest time and obviously emotion and publicly post false and defamatory statements about luxurychair.com ?. Because your posting such false and defamatory remarks in a public forum, which has the same avenue of exposure as the actual website, it now becomes illegal. Atleast here in the United States it is. Its called Libel and Slander Law. If luxurychair has half a brain they would subpoena the logs of this stupid blog and get the IPs of all you anonymous slandering assholes and then sue the shit out of each and everyone of you ... I would strongly recommend you all shut the hell up ... lol ... morons ...

Dear Luxurychair.com and Levi Cohen.

First of all, you need to understand your legal terms. Slander is defamation by ORAL utterance. Not by writing, pictures, etc. So technically speaking, it's completely impossible for anyone on this blog to commit slander against you (better brush up on your legal terms).

Secondly, libel is defined as a FALSE publication that damages a person's reputation. Given the above preponderance of evidence that clearly demonstrates the crooked business practices of luxurychair.com, you've got a tough case to prove. Good luck with the lawsuits! Can't wait to have your business practices scrutinized by a judge and jury!

Wow, I just stumbled upon this site this morning. I recently got my son off to college and was finally cleaning off my some items I needed to follow up on and noticed my file on the L. Cohen Group. This is the former name of Luxury Chair and Levi Cohen. My husband online purchased a chair from them in 2003. We NEVER recieved a chair. We contacted them numerous times and they said it was on its way but of course it never arrived. They charged our credit card $690.00. We disputed this charge with our Visa card and it was taken off of our bill. Several months later ANOTHER charge form L. Cohen Group appeared on our charge. Again after several attempts at phone calls, emails etc. pretending like they care and will resolve the issue, no response. Finally, we called agian and a recorded message came on that our phone number had been blocked from their company. We never recieved a chair, we never recieved a credit, and finally after making a call from my office, their phone number was disconnected. So, today after opening my file, I decided to "Google" Levi Cohen and found this site. To this day, the fact that we got ripped off bothers me, that he took our money and never received anything! Had I still lived in New Jersey and not in Pittsburgh I would have made a personal visit to his company to collect my money. Obviously, Levi and his company continue to scam people. I have no chair, Levi has my money. I got nothing, not even a crappy knock off. I reported this incidet to Herman Miller and they told me that they are not authorized dealers. We had to cancel our credit card for fear they would randomly charge it again. How do they wake up in the morning and look in the mirror?

I think its great to get the word out about Luxury Chair for consumers consider to purchase a chair. I think we need to get together and file suit as a group against Levi Cohen. Post if you're interested. Levi is on this site periodically, so we would need to find a way to outsmart him and his croonies. I propose a yahoo account to collect information. Let me know if you're interested.........there is power in numbers!!!

While following leads about a dark HYIP scam site called expressinvestments.net, I came across a google-cached page of theirs,

http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache:7l9xiKi6cywJ:expressinvestments.net/%3Fa%3Dforgot_password

where all of the links point to luxurychair.com

Two possible reasons for this are:

A pyramid scam chose to use a luxurychair.com webpage as a template.

luxurychair also likes to run pyramid scam sites.

I have a story so similar it makes no sense to recount it. A good lesson for all of us is to check out a company at the local bussiness bureau website before purchasing. The New York BBB gives Luxury Chair an unsatisfactory rating. These are indeed souless people who will never understand that there is more to life than $$$. That should be penalty enough. However, perhaps the local news should cover this story to help prevent Levi Cohen and his family from fraudulent business practices. I do not live in the area but perhaps someone who does, and cares to get involved, can run with that idea.

I ordered an aeron chair from them. Based on their website, it is shipped from 3-10 days of order. However, they emailed that they will ship between 3-6 weeks. I canceled my order because it will be late for the birthday gift which I bought the chair for. They granted the cancellation by email. However, they said that they will charge a cancellation fee. They also provided me a link that is supposed to point to the cancellation policy. When I click on it, it is a false link and I could not find any information on the cancellation policy. After three weeks, my credit card account still had not been credited for the refund. When I called them, they said they had problem with their charging terminal and promised too credit my account soon. (What a coincidence!). When I asked how much they will charge for the cancellation fee. They told me it is $16. I thought it is not a large amount and I do not want to deal with these guys and wanted to get over with it. I did not dispute on the cancellation fee. When I finally received the refund on my account, it turned out they charged more than $16 from my account.

Beware! Do not ever deal with these guys!

LUXURYCHAIR.COM IS DEFINITELY A SCAM - BELOW IS PART OF AN EMAIL I SENT THEM AS THEY CONTINUE TO NOT RETURN MY CALLS.

------------------

After 4 MONTHS of waiting, we finally received the right chairs on 10/26; however, they were MISSING THE FREE LEATHER ARM UPGRADES AND THE LUMBAR SUPPORTS. This is really upsetting. We DO NOT WANT any other chairs from you (THEY OFFERED TO GIVE US CHAIRS AS CREDIT!); instead, we ask for a $ credit due to all items pointed out below:

* On 6/13/06, we ordered 3 Aeron Size A Chairs and we were billed $2022.00 on our American Express Card.
* After over two months, we received a shipment from you but they were for the wrong chairs. Our (NAME WITHHELD) notified you of this error via phone and email on 8/17 and we received a message from you about sending return labels for these chairs.
* Three weeks later, we were still waiting for return labels so we called and sent another email on 9/7. Note that these huge, semi-crushed boxes were sitting in the middle of our brand new office. They were an eye sore to all that enters our facility and there was no where to hide such big boxes.
* Finally, completely frustrated, (NAME WITHHELD) asked that I help get these chairs out of our office so on 9/25, I spoke to Sarah who said she will send me return labels for pickup by end of day.
*On 9/26, I found UPS return labels on my fax machine. I got boxes ready for shipping and called UPS for a pick up. UPS told me that the tracking numbers are not valid for pickup and they cannot send anyone out for these boxes. I called your office and according to the Rep I spoke to, those numbers are valid and to NOT GIVE UPS the tracking numbers and just ask them to pickup boxes. I gave it another try but UPS tells me that your company no longer has an account with UPS so they cannot pickup boxes based on these tracking numbers.
* On 9/27, I called your office back again and spoke to Levi (HE SAID HE WAS THE OWNER'S SON!) this time who told me that I must have been holding on to these return labels as they were old and that you no longer use UPS. How ridiculous as I just received those labels the day before. Levi informed me that your company no longer uses UPS but will be sending me another set of labels and that he will be calling DHL for SAME DAY pickup. I received the labels but DHL never picked up.
* On 9/28, I called Levi again and told him no one came out to pick up the boxes. He told me that he would call DHL again and ask for boxes to be picked up right away. No one picked up the boxes that day.
* The following week, on Monday, 10/2, I initiated a call to DHL and requested them to pick up the boxes. They came in the next day on 10/3, at 10:30am. They were shipped 2nd day air and I notified Levi that they were finally picked up and should be in your office in two days. Levi told me that he will ship out replacement chairs as soon as the wrong chairs are received on their warehouse. Levi also confirmed that there were over a hundred of these chairs in your stock so he is sure to send out replacements ASAP.
* On 10/23, I called you again to find out where our chairs were. According to the person who picked up the phone, the returns were already received in your office but (1) you guys were not clear if we wanted new chairs or a credit, and (2) the chairs we wanted were not available. I told her that Levi is aware of this entire issue and that the problems we have encountered should already be documented in your system.
The next day, we received a confirmation from your office that three chairs shipped out and are on our way to our office.
* My question here: suppose I didnÂ’t call to check on status of our orderÂ… then maybe we will still have no chairs.
* Finally on 10/26, we received the chairs we ordered but were missing leather arm and lumbar support. SEE ORIGINAL INVOICE. It is explicitly noted there that these items should have been included on the shipment. Did anyone even pay attention to this shipment? Your office knew we were having problems with this order and the least you could have done was to make sure we received the CORRECT AND COMPLETE order.
---------------

I have called and emailed. I requested a reply in writing as we cannot legally record conversations and these people are a bunch of liars.

I am filing complaints everywhere I can.

My story seems like a common one:
- Ordered a chair at luxurychair, and was billed immediately.
- I didn't see any activity to indicate my chair was shipping, so called and spoke with Levi.
- He promised to send an email in 5 minutes showing the chair was ready for DHL pickup.
- No email.
- Called next day, this time I was told the Herman Miller chair I wanted was out of stock, but he would send me a leather High Back Leap chair, for the same price. AND, that I would get an email confirmation is 5 minutes.
- No email.
- Called again, same old same old...
- Called again, ditto... (Started to wonder if I had been given stupid pills when I wasn't looking!)
- Called AMEX, Filed a dispute.
- Chair arrived 1 week AFTER the written dispute arrived at my office. 4 weeks after my initial order. (HINT: Most reputable online retailers won't charge you for your purchase UNTIL it actualy is shipped.)
- I think I received the Basic model, not the High Back model, called luxurychair and asked for photos comparing the difference...
- Emailed to request photo's...
- Called AMEX to update my dispute. BTW - I have NOT been chargedyet, because of the dispute!

12/01/2006: Which brings me to today. I attempted to go online to luxurychair's website, and the are gone. Maybe this is an early Christmas present for me?

I would HIGHLY reccomend for anyone who has made a purchase, and has unresolved issues to contact their credit card provider and open a dispute. AMEX was very good about it with me.

Caveat Emptor!

NEW SCAM ALERT!!!

Be aware! I have been told by a reliable source that luxury chair, whom appears to have shut down both the website AND phone lines, may have opened another site under a different name, but with the same old scams.

BEWARE OF AND STAY CLEAR FROM: www.trendychair.com

They were in contempt of court because Levi failed to show for a hearing with Steelcase. The judge shut them down. You will notice they were back up the next day without Steelcase product.

Really people...can't you smell the fraud? Steelcase did.

I ordered a chair from Luxury chair and they charged my credit card immediately (not a common practice by most legitimate businesses) and proceeded to lie about the delivery, claiming it was shipped, giving me a ficticious DHL tracking number and basically trying to expend the "30 day money back guarantee". You see, the 30 days starts on the day you "purchase" the product. Most reputable dealers will only bill you when they ship the merchandise. Luxury chair bills you upon order. When and if the correct chair arrives (after the 30 days from order), according to their questionable 'guarantee' if you are not satisfied you can return it but they will charge you shipping both ways, credit card fees, and whatever else they can make up. I spoke to Levi Cohen personally. After several days of his repeated lies, I cancelled my order and disputed the charge with my credit card. Now, out of nowhere they have commissioned a collection agency to harrass me. For what? I have nothing of theirs.

I urge all who have had a bad experience with Luxury chair to file complaints with:

New York State Consumer Protection Board 1-800- 697-1220

Bureau of Consumer Frauds and Protection, office of the Attorney General 1-800-788-9898

New York City Dept. of Consumer Affairs 212-487-4444

Better Business Bureau of New York 716-881-5222

By the way, according to the BBB Luxury Chairs has an unsatisfactory record.

If Luxury Chair is such an honest business and everyone who has posted a complaint is simply competition trying to tarnish their reputation, then Luxury Chair has nothing to worry about. It really does not matter what anyone thinks about it, it only matters what people do about it. Take action and fight for your rights. Let the truth be heard.

Dear Luxurychair.com Haters,

I have never bought a chair from Luxurychair.com. I do not own any Herman Miller product. I do not blog. I do not scour websites before I make a purchase. I do not post comments.

I was alerted to this blog by an associate of mine for the purpose of humor.

I have known Levi Cohen for the last 15 years. We were better friends than most best friends are.

We had a non-business related falling out a few years ago.

During our 15 year friendship we had numerous business dealings that all ended profitable and amicably.

I am inclined to believe that all your horror stories about Levi Cohen and Luxurychair.com are in fact true.

But not because Levi Cohen is sitting on a Herman Miller Aeron chair—with his feet up on his desk--- has a master plan to screw all his customers.

Say there are 200 of you that have left negative comments and had a bad experience.
Say luxurychair.com makes a paltry 20 sales a day.
Say luxurychair.com is in business for 3 years.
Deduct weekends and holidays.
Luxurychair.com has processed 18,000 sales in 3 years.

YOU---the 200 disgruntled customers represent a mere 1.1% of his customers.

Luxurychair.com has a satisfaction rate of over 98%!!!!!

Which means: for every disgruntled customer there are 99 satisfied customers.

While these figures might not be 100% accurate, I think for demonstrative purposes we all get the point.

I cannot answer why you were all lied to. I cannot answer why they charge you before they ship. I cannot answer why they sound so eager to resolve problems and then donÂ’t follow through.

However, as in any business, there will always be a small----in this case very small---percentage of customers that are unhappy.

I am in Australia, sitting on my new Aeron, looking for others' opinions and came across this site.

Murray TB has missed the point when he claims YOU---the 200 disgruntled customers represent a mere 1.1% of his customers.

You are assuming that the (say) 200 negative comments here represent 100% of the bad experience. There may be hundreds of others who haven't written about them.

At least you guys seem to come from NYC so will know that Levi Cohen sounds more like a cartoon character than your typical Jew. I am thrilled nobody has lept to the wrong conclusion based on the actions of one asshat.

One of the things I love about America, is the attention to customer service. In my experience, dealing with American companies, restaurants etc. is an absolute treat compared to the general experience here. As such, I expect you guys are a lot more sensitive to bad service than we are (Aussies are more likely to just put up with it).

I think setting up a ***sucks.com site is hilarious! You can be very glad for your 1st Amendment...

Anyway, can anybody refer me to some good resources on calibrating the Aeron or getting better performance? Most of my Googling led me to retail sites or this page. Obviously I have read and absorbed everything Herman Miller's sites have to offer.

BLAME HERMAN MILLER & THEIR DEALERS.

LuxuryChair.com is NOT listed on HM site as a dealer. So then, where are they buying HM chairs? What are they actually selling?

I will go to an authorized site to buy my chair.

LC is illegally representing themselves and selling HM knock-offs.

Herman Miller and their authorized distrbutors are a huge disappointment. Where is their integrity? They should protect their brand and care about their loyal customers by raising a lawsuit in courts. The truth is that it's just not worth HM and their distributors time or money. However, they should realize people shop on the web. I wanted to buy an authentic HM chair, so I typed "Herman Miller" and up comes a bunch of listings, including LuxuryChair.com. The price was great - but was it legit?

Luckily I did some research by calling around companies and checking websites.

But it seems to me your pressure should be directed to HM, thier dealers, and Google (don't they do any qualification before running ads?) to STOP allowing this to happen. These companies are clearly large enough and influential enough to stop this.

It is a matter of professional integrity - they are dissappointingly unsupportive of their loyal customer base, as well as just doing the right thing (again, it's another way of HM saying 'your not financially worth it')

Disappointed with apathetic and unsupportive HM and dealerrs, I will buy a real HM chair from a bona-fide authorized HM dealer. It's a shame I had to waste 2 hours to find the validate legitimate/bogus sources.

I bought a Steelcase Leap Chair from LuxuryChair.com - I asked numerous times if it was a brand new chair with a full warranty - everytime I asked I was told "Yes". This included the owner - Levi, telling me it was a brand new chair. When I received the chair - there were parts where the paint was worn down to the metal - all the labels were ripped off, etc. and there was a big dent in the bottom of it. I called again and spoke to Levi - he said it was in fact brand new and that they cover the warranty on the chair - giving a longer one than steelcase. I then called steelcase - found out they were not a dealer for them. After confronting Levi with this info, he said he would be happy to take a return and called the chair back. I then bought a chair directly from steelcase - after receiving it, I am COMPLETELY sure that the chair luxurychair shipped to me was either an old refurbished chair or a complete knock off. I can't believe how blatantly these people will lie to you while taking $600 from your pocket - be careful - if the price is to good to be true, be warry.

Hmmm...this blog looks like an opportunity for competitors to screw each other.

I have a piece of advise for people who want to buy Herman Miller Aeron. Go to your local authorized dealer and try to get the best possible price. Dealers are VERY aware that there is such a thing as the internet and cheaper prices. All the Toronto are dealers are prepaired to compete with each other. The chair will cost me $1150 Canadian including polish base, upgrade cloth and hardwood casters. That makes it about $900 US. Better then the price of some US internet stores. This is from an AUTHORIZED dealer.

I live in Canada and was about to go buy a chair from luxurychair but decided against it because we wanted the upgrades. After all, if you are going to spend THAT much money, you might as well get EXACTLY what you want.

I don't have any personal experoience with luxurychair. What I often find that where there is smoke, more often then not, there MAY be fire. On the other hand, too many posts in this blog appear like sour milk and opportunism from competitors.

A couple of notes about the Aeron. I use to work for Herman Miller and I know they make outstanding products. However, they are also hard heads. I wanted a head rest on my chair because after a hards day work, I want to push back and relax. It's had to do if your head feels like falling off the back of your neck. I am STILL looking around for a chair that is as good as the Aeron BUT I have another trick up my sleeve. As soon as I receive my wifes chair, I will experiment with mounting a tube frame from the four bolts on the back and adding a headrest.

And lastly...

I tried a HumanScale Freedom. HORRRIBLE, ATROCIOUS fit, at least for me AND my wife. Actually, it helped seal the direction my wife took for her chair. They have an excellent idea for bringing forth ones head while reclining but they overdid it and it lands up shoving your head into your chest. Sadly, a brilliant idea gone bad.

I have one word of advice for ANYONE who is going to spend serious amount for seating TRY IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT.

Good luck and good hunting....

To Rich Cohen,

While companies do try to police their products, they can not protect people from their own greed. On Herman Millers website, you will find a list of authorized dealers. If any of their authorized dealers try to screw you, Herman Miller WILL take their heads off. As an ex employee I know it as a fact that Herman Miller is VERY aggressive about protecting their reputation, however, do you really expect them to protect people from scams?

It is YOUR responsibility to protect yourself from scammers and rip off artists. I am not confirming or denying any part of the previous blog is true or false, just a general comment about people who expect or demand others to protected from their own actions.

Just had a similar experience with Luxurychair... promises of three to five day delivery turned into four weeks! Then when the chair came... it did not have the front tilt option that I'd paid for. When I called about the problem I was told that, "most people don't even use the front tilt". Now I've been given the option of sending the chair back and waiting another four weeks or perhaps they will refund the forty dollar cost of the missing option. I guess it's true.. you get what you pay for.

Although it is very unfortunate for many of you who seem to have been taken advantage of, you must always realize the truest tenet and foundation of the con artist...they exploit THE MARK'S GREED! Luxurychair.com knows their prices are bait. And just like a con man he tells you what you want to hear until he has your money.

The only thing that has me dumbfounded is how long this fraudulent enterprise has been operating without any repercussions, whether through legal channels or with a good ol' baseball bat!

Look: I've been a victim of Luxurychair.com too. All you have to do is call Visa, Mastercard or Amex and file a dispute. You will get your money back. Do not bother to call Sara or Levi or any of those people. It's a scam, pure and simple. Let's just hope that Kharma come into play and they all get brain cancer or AIDS. And by the way: who says the guy's name really is Levi? Maybe he's just perpetuating the stereotype by using a fake name. And Levi: if you are reading this. I know where you live.

I ordered an aeron chair on 12/19/06 and am still waiting for it. Today is 3/3/07! Unbelieveable. I get the same BS as the rest of you when I call and the same fake DHL tracking number. I think I have spoken to everyone there and they tell me how sorry and embarrassed they are that my chair hasn't shipped. They make a bunch of promises that they have no intention of keeping. I'm cancelling the chair on Monday. Here's hoping I get my money back. Somehow I doubt that will happen.

Regarding the comment - "The number you posted of your attorney is a plumbing supply Company."

Your a moron. If you called the number you would clearly hear its the very attorney the guy posted.

- obviously a luxurychair.com reply.

Mendy is a Rabbi. Rabbi is simply a rabbinical teacher. That doesn't mean because he is a rabbi, he is a sinless person. Mendy felig is a dirty @#$%!@# and gives a bad name to Jewish people. Rabbi's dont follow the same "sinless" and celibate life catholic/ christian clergy follow. There is no certification process.

Regarding luxurychair.com's business practices, regardless of all these posts, there is one thing that is very true and should be reported immediately to the appropriate parties:

They are non-PCI, non VISA-CISP and non MasterCard-SDP compliant.

This means, they capture and store credit card information unsecurely and against all credit card, financial, SAS and federal guidelines!

While I do not get upset often, this is a rare case. My anger is directed to one company. So, I am going to tell my story.

Last year, in the beginning of September, I started to look for a Herman Miller chair, online. While the retail price for these chairs was about $1,000, I went to the internet to find a cheaper one. To my luck, I found a website, www.luxuarychairs.com, which was selling these chairs for around $700. Well, like any other internet related dealer, there is a risk. I took that risk for the deal.

I placed an order for this chair, which they claimed was in-stock at the time of purchase. Several weeks go by with no word regarding confirmation or order status. Then a month even 2 months. I called my credit card company to hold payments and issue a complaint about this company. After issuing the complaint, low and behold a chair arrives at my door. Happy days...of course, this follows up with poor workmanship, and a broken, re-furbished product, after information on the website clearly says, "new"!

After a week, the chair seat falls off the chair while I sit down on it. I am not a big person, I am not overweight, I am average by all standards. This chair was a piece of junk, which should never have been sold. After an attempt to fix the problem myself, almost 4 hours, and a day of drying time for a 2-part steel glue, this seat is not salvageable.

So, with a minor annoyance, I contact the customer service representative of this company, who suggested that I send the seat to them for replacement, which I gladly agreed too. After weeks of waiting for a replacement seat, and no contact from customer service, I gave up. Several emails later, a half-dozen calls to an answering machine, and even calls to my credit card company again, nothing was done.

There was one final ray of hope, when all was lost, I spoke to a gentleman who informed me to email customer service, and he will guarantee me a response.

The email I sent and his response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear you are unsatisfied with your chair and are requesting a refund. We will expect the other parts of your chair and when all parts are delivered to our facility we will begin the process of issuing a refund.

To Whom It May Concern:

On February 22, 2007, I had sent back to your company the broken seat from
my order, Number xxxx. This is one of many problems I have encountered
regarding this order, and the overall customer service from your company. I
am seeking to return the remainder of the chair, less what was already sent,
to you for a refund. The original order started in late last year, and
through a varied of delays, and problems, I have decided that I do not want
this item. Please inform me of the actions required to return the rest of
the chair to your company for a refund. You can contact me via email at:
Sidney@chickkaro.com or by phone at (xxx) xxx-xxxx.

If I do not hear from someone at customer service regarding this email or
what actions to take by 5:00 PM on Thursday, March 8, 2007, then I will ship
the chair directly to the attention of customer service, at the address
posted on the website. In addition, I will contact my credit card company,
and file a complaint, request a refund of the money spent. I am not looking
to create any issues or problems for either your company or myself, but
would like to just end this simple transaction.

Thank you for your time and attention,

Well, a response, send them the remainder of the chair and get a refund. Success! Well, the following day, I ship the remainder of the chair to the company, including a copy of the email, and all the other back-up regarding this purchase. They received the chair on March 13, 2007, which happens to be after their policy regarding a refund for defective or returned products. So, the promise of a refund was denied and revoked. And now, after several calls regarding them receiving this returned chair, I am on a priority list to receive another defective, like-new, open boxed chair from Luxuarychairs.com

Oh, for those who are wondering, to ship the chair back for a refund, cost about $300, which is nearly half the price of the original purchase. I could have gotten a new chair from a licensed dealer locally for less money and time than Luxuarychairs.com.
