apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

March is Bathroom Month!

3-12-flosser.jpgIt may be the smallest room in your home, but it's still important. A nice bathroom can make the beginning and end of your day a joy, and the routes to improvement can range between a few new towels or a gut renovation. This month we're taking tips and inspiration. Send us pics of your bathroom, we'll post them and send you a gift in return (all info here). Send us good tips and resources and we'll quote you.

Meanwhile, we've been a flosser for many years, mainly out of fear of having route canal like our parents, BUT we've been told it's very unappealling. We know it's not pretty, but if you discovered your new girl/boyfriend was a flosser, wouldn't that be hot? (pic: Otto Floss Holder by Alessi)

I'm not sure the word "hot" quite does it, but to generally think that you're with someone who takes care of themselves has a lot to be said for it.

I agree with Curtis.

I am extremely happy that my SO poops because without doing so she would be extremely unhealthy. That doesn't mean I find her pooping HOT.

I'm way better at flossing my kids' teeth than at flossing my own. Embarrassing but true.

(Maxwell, I think you mean "root canal".)

I once dated a dentist who shared this gem with me:

Be true to your teeth, or they will be false to you.

i've had that little guy floss holder for 6 years, just staring at me morning and night, and i STILL can't manage to make him part of my daily routine.

my dentist tells me twice a year:"you don't have to floss all of your teeth... just the ones you want to keep."

Flossing may or may not be "hot", but losing teeth because you didn't floss is definitely NOT hot.

One word -- periodontist. After having one of these guys (or gals) do their thing, you WILL find flossing hot.

My husband was not a flosser before I met him (no one in his family flosses & both parents have had false teeth since their they were in their late 50's!). He started flossing when we moved in together about a year into our relationship and we have been happily flossing together for over 15 years

i floss every day, but it was REALLY hard to get into the habit. i just figure the dentist knows what she's talking about.

the late mitch hedberg had a great joke. "People who smoke cigarettes, they say 'You don't know how hard it is to quit smoking.' Yes, I do. It's as hard as it is to start flossing."

Um, since we're talking significant others, flossing and hotness...

It is recommended NOT to floss immediately before or after certain, um, oral activities. It increases possible risk of transmission of HIV.

Dirty! ;D

Flossing isn't hot, but neither is bad breath or toothlessness.

I got away with flossing less when I was using a Sonicare, but now that I'm back to a "normal" toothbrush, flossing is a necessity.

As far as cute Mr Flossing Dude, a few years back I filled my house with things like that. I have all sorts of desk supplies, stuff for the kitchen and bathroom (like a duck-shaped scrub brush for the kitchen sink), etc. I liked the idea of them, and they would have been great if I'd had kids, but I found out that for me, they seem very difficult to "pull off" in an adult decor scheme. I feel like they only work if you go for a 100% Pop or kitsch factor. But ICBW. Definitely cheerful in a medicine cabinet (for Otto here) or on a desk at work (for desk supplies in a similar style).
