News that Martha was sentenced to 5 months in jail spread quickly last Friday, and Martha herself wasted no time in orchestrating the next round of her "I'll be back!" tour, with a press conference outside the Federal Courthouse at which she urged people to support her by buying her products and new installments on her website, including her letter (actually two letters - one was switched) to Judge Cedarbaum and a video in which she discusses her case (not permitted until after sentencing). While we love Martha Stewart's creations, we have only a little sympathy for Martha and some advice: humor will win over all your enemies. For example,...

Martha Stewart, that Evil Woman (the relevant word here is 'woman').
I see mysogyny is alive and well at Apartment Therapy. Gee guys, Why the venom? Just when I thought you were a positive, good energy online
prescense. I could write a lot more here. but I wont. I am dissapointed in you.

This is a few months old and may have been blogged here before, but it's certainly very appropriate for this topic and this site - some funny interior design ideas for Martha's cell

You guys are so consistently off on everything it's shocking - For an entity supposedly about interiors and style to be espousing WEST ELM (ugliest of all ugly thing purveyors) and dissing Martha is really the last straw - Link hereby removed from favorites... (why was it ever there - oh yeah cause of the funny story on Gawker where you got so busted for your practice of slavishly rehashing the Times home section as kind of original content cum hommage?)
Oh yeah and ditto on the horrid mysogyny embedded in your clueless post - Good job guys - Keep on truckin'
Dear Matt,
Sorry to offend. As for the couch competition pushing up West Elm, you should have weighed in sooner, as that is what people like at that price, and - despite West Elm's shortcomings - it is a tough thing to find something even nearly nice at that price. Send us your suggestion. We are interested.
As for the swipe at Martha, it was never intended to be as strong as you seemed to take it and, on reviewing it myself, I have amended it slightly. Take a look and see if still seems off base to you. I am afraid it might still, but at least my meaning will be clear, and I can stand behind it.
Best,
Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan
I think it's easy for Arnold to face the world with humor, as he sits very much atop the world, and from that vantage point, everything's peachy.
Not so when you are facing actual jail time, as Martha has been. (and please, no "but it's MINIMUM security" garbage. prison is prison.)
If this is the standard of justice for Martha, did I miss the Enron hangings? And how could the TYCO boys walk away? Sorry to digress.
For the record, as a "girlie man" myself, I find NOTHING about Arnold endearing. Never did, except maybe in those early Stay Hungry days, when his accent was thicker but his waistline wasn't... but again I wander.
Now, as for West Elm, they fill an interesting, previously-unfilled niche (and sell 'em, too!). But good god, it's only furniture (and I am a self-professed furniture junkie, but it's still only furniture). To each his/her own. Matt, stay linked so your anti-Elm voice will remain heard and keep us all on the path toward furniture salvation!!
