The Second City comes up from behind. In the continuing coverage of Chicago's new Millenium Park, we have found some beautiful photographs of Frank Gehry's outdoor auditorium. Also in this photo journal are pictures of Anish Kapoor's super shiny "Bean" sculpture and a remarkable fountain, which features 50 foot high towers with local faces projected onto them so that water appears to issue forth from their mouths. All this on a new Chicago weblog called Gapers Block which is "about Chicago." Are they going to put a headlock on Chicagoist? (via Kottke) MGR

Gapers Block has been around for more than a year -- Chicagoist has been around for, um, three months.
Yes, to corroborate on GB, they are great. I've lived in Chicago for 22 years and they point out great things, the unique, independant things in the far corners of the city that makes Chicago what it is. I plan my weekends around their reccommendations.
Headlock? No. Kung-fu fighting move? Perhaps.
Headlock? I think not. Chicagoist doesn't even pose a noogie threat. Not only has Gapers Block been around much longer, but they are in a completely different league than Chicagoist. Chicagoist has zero original content while Gapers Block has become a respected news source for the Chicago area.
