News: Hold Everything is Kaput - Shop Now!

2-13-hold.jpgWe just got a tip yesterday that Hold Everything, the long limp storage arm of the Williams Sonoma empire, is soon to close. We sort of thought this might happen. Hold Everything has always been thin on ideas, poor on service and high on price. Having The Container Store whallop the storage niche probably didn't help them either.

Williams Sonoma is reported to be folding Hold's "closet-organizing items into its other brands." When this will happen is unclear, but items in the stores are already on sale and more price drops are expected. (Thanks, Carol!)

The store on 16th St. in Chelsea was already looking rather bare a week ago. Are there other branches in Manhattan?

There's also one on the UES at 69th and 2nd.

The current list of store locations is linked from my name below. Just eight of 'em. I'll have to make a road trip across the Bay if I want to check out the sale. :-(

You can already find on sale Hold Everything stuff on Pottery Barn's web site. It's not much, but maybe it will increase now.

"Apartment Therapy is an interior design blog read, in large part, by urban lefties who prattle on about economic irrelevancies such as "sustainable development" and "eco-friendly" trade policies, etc., etc., etc., ad infinitum. It is therefore interesting that one of their blog posts so elegantly and concisely captures the beauty and efficiency of pure capitalism."

You must be thinking about another blog Dave.
Type one of the following into google and you'll find no hits:

"sustainable development" site:www.apartmenttherapy.com

+eco +friendly +trade +policies site:www.apartmenttherapy.com

Type either of the above search options without the site:www.apartmenttherapy.com and you'll get some sites that are more like the kind of site you think AT is or you need AT to be to prove your point.

Not even a good try.

Oh no!

There isn't much at HE that I like, but I *adore* their Chelsea bed (to be sold in March) and I can't find anything really comparable for the same price. Any idea when HE will shut down?

Quote: "UPDATE: Apparently, my reference to Apartment Therapy's readers as "urban lefties" has upset some of its readers. No offense is intended; there are far worse things to be than an "urban lefty." Hell, most of the country would consider me an urban lefty. Those who think that I'm attacking Apartment Therapy's readers are missing the point."

Dave, I doubt your opinion is important enough for anyone here to be upset. Really!

I'm not upset. I was merely correcting an innacuracy in a simple, empirical way. No more, no less.

I'm proud to be called an urban lefty!

Yeah but you don't prattle on about anything on this site.

Not that that's an invitation to or anything ;)

UES officially closed-closed? I'd like to know the Chelsea status, too. Really want to pick up some stuff to go with the sale stuff I just bought from their Web site, but thinking it's too late now.

Does anyone know where I can buy the Chelsea bed? HE won't tell me who manufactured it. Please email me!!

updated % off, its now 60 on top of anything today and tomorrow, not that there's much left. The media stand (click my name) is a better deal than driving to IKEA.
