Interesting locale. Will the Port Authority be the new design mecca? Hmmm.
Can I just say, that building is damn ugly. Looks like a fancy jail.
That's a terrible location too. I'm not sure I'd make a special trip over there just to go to the Muji store.
Is MUJI Japanese for IKEA?
Muji is great, very minimalist, no logos. I've been going to that museum store in Soho that carries some of their stuff so I'm glad to see a whole store on the way!
Yipee, yipee! Not that I live in NY, but I would definitely go when I'm in NY and maybe they'll have a good US website now for online shopping, which I don't believe they've had. And soon they'll have stores in DC and...
By the way, I like the way that building looks.
I have been a commuter from the Port Authority Bus Terminal for almost 10 years, and let me tell you, that building is an improvement over what was there before - the days when you had to check your back pocket to make sure your wallet was still there. Love the building, and can't wait for Muji!
The Port Authority area is definitely on the upswing. There are so many new apt. buildings, hotels and businesses being built there. I mentioned to a friend that we should go to a restaurant in Port Authority (Metro Marche) and he couldn't believe there was one there worth the effort. But with Metro Marche right across the street from the new NY Times building and more on the way, I think MUJI is smart to open up shop there.
I am SO excited for Muji. Having just returned from two Muji-induced spending sprees in Hong Kong, I am excited for the prospect of having one here.
But I do wonder two very important things:
-if they will keep the prices as low, and...
-if there will be a time to shop there where the store is not so totally over-run by tourists that its not worth the hassle.
i (heart) muji
hooray! i *loved* going to muji when i lived in japan. i am so excited for this!!
Yippee!!! I dream about the hours I spent wandering around in the MUJI Paris store. If you are unfamiliar with the brand, at it to your list for your next NYC visit, I would think the company will make their first US store something special.
First Uniqlo and now Muji. All we need is a United Arrows and a Beams! And finally an end to the massive overpricing at Moma....
I'm STILL kicking myself for walking right by one in Hong Kong and not stopping in, doing the "I'll stop by later" schtick and then not having time.
Still holding out hope for one closer to me...
Very exciting. I'll have to start saving for my next visit!
...............It's
...............about
...............time
Only question remaining, what the hell took them so long?
Exciting. I work near there, and in the 10 years I've lived in NYC, the area has improved immeasurably. When I first moved here, some addict tried to grab me and push me against a wall next to Port Authority(he had "romantic" intentions). Now I don't even worry walking through there. Muji can only continue to improve things!
I bought a pair of socks at the Muji part of MOMA Design Store the other day, and they're kind of weird -- they're sort of very short, but the colors are great, and they looked like they had some pretty interesting and generic storage stuff, too. I think a whole store full of that would be great.
Plus... whenever you're on your way back from Ikea on the bus at Port Authority, you could just stop in a Muji to pick up whatever you couldn't find at Ikea, right?
nice building. is it going to be a flagship store? we had lots of muji stores here in s'pore. but the prices are a little out of reach for most.
