Get outside. Despite the fact that work has taken over, as New York settles into the biggest, most productive months of the year, we were reminded yesterday to get away from the computer by a. our wife (who took us to the river to eat sandwiches for lunch) and b. a reader who went to the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum over the weekend and sent in the message, "Run, don't walk. Fall is the time to visit." The gardens there are very special.
Noguchi's museum in Queens is a remarkable storehouse of all his achievements, from gardens to furniture to sculpture to interior design and on and on. Born in 1904, Isamu Noguchi worked up until his death in 1988. In particular, his gardens were a central unifying area in which all of his art could come together:
"I had a revelation in 1933 of the earth outdoors as a new way of conceiving sculpture."
The Museum is open Wednesday through Friday (10-5pm) and Saturday and Sunday (11-6pm). To get there take the Take the N or W train to the Broadway stop in Queens and follow these directions. (Thanks, Robin) MGR

I agree, it's an absolutely gorgeous museum, both indoors and out (don't miss the exhibit on the 2nd floor with his set designs for ballet, some of his furniture (installed complete with a loop of cocktail party background noise), and a beautifully lit, atmospheric indoor "garden"). While you're in the neighborhood, check out the oddball Socrates Sculpture Park http://www.socratessculpturepark.org/ It's a nice place for a picnic by the water and just a few blocks away.
