Nothing says party like a girl liking a mint leaf. I guess.

I hope there will be lots of holiday cooking tips. Small apartment, small fridge . . . After some problems where my oven couldn't keep up with my guests hunger last holidays, I need to regroup.

Why not ask people to bring side dishes and dessert? There's nothing wrong with going potluck, especially if there are bunches of people showing up. Non-cooks can buy sides dishes at restaurants, bring drinks/alcohol or music. I go to a group Thanksgiving at a friend's house in Brooklyn. Last year I got caught up in turkey traffic trying to use the oven, so I'm planning on cooking at home and bringing my things over this time. If you still want to go it alone, consider cooking in advance and reheating or just making simpler dishes that don't take so long.

my roommate and i had a very successful holiday party last year in our very small apartment. we made syrup for mulled wine (see Joy of Cooking) and people brought bottles of red wine. A bunch of my roommate's friends came with a large bag of sliced baguette (they were french, so it goes), which was very easy with some olive oil with minced garlic or olive oil with balsamic vinegar. Otherwise, we had festive cocktail napkins and the whole thing was very easy.
