To hell with Architectural Digest. We're looking to do a walking tour of apartments in Red Hook.
It's open house season and we're getting in on the action ourselves. We're organizing a signature AT event - hands on, spontaneous and full of quality views. To start we've picked a bit of an overlooked 'hood in Brooklyn, but one with significant strutting rights. It's your chance to see if you want to live here yourself.

I spoke to Maxwell once about organizing a home tour by and for AT readers - I think it's a great idea. I'm totally in.
Sounds like a fun possibility (to attend not to show), but still too far off for me to be certain. On Saturday or Sunday? How are you getting there, the the public transporation there is not very good? At least I live within walking distance off of Smith St.
Thanks Evan and Jimkk. We're still playing with the date but expect it to be on the day that's least inconvenient for those who have expressed interest in opening their apartments.
And as for the public transportation...getting there will be half the fun.
This post is our first announcement. We want to see how much interest there is. We'll be following this up next week.
I looove Red Hook. Bonus is that the NY Water Taxi leaves from downtown (Seaport, Battery Park, etc.) on the weekends and if you have a Fairway receipt it's only $5.
Count me in. I was thinking of checking it out myself -
My husband and I generally do walking tours of the area on friday evenings. red hook is on our list

I would love to join the group! And taking the water taxi to Fairway is a great solution to the lack of transportation.
Sounds like fun. Count me in.
i am soooo interested...
This sounds cool! Totally do it, but do it before the second week of July while I'm still in town!
Okay, now I see it'd be the last week of June. I'm totally in!
I'm in. If my vote has any weight in date deliberations, I prefer Sunday over Saturday.
I'm just a quiet AT NY fan tracking from Atlanta, but I'm planning to visit friends in Brooklyn that weekend, so if you can make it happen I would love to check it out. Great work.
after the red hook tour , AT should consider adding the Fort Tryon area as one of the walking house tours ???
Seeing apartments does sound interesting. Jimkk is right, though--everyone should wear comfortable shoes, unless all these people live near the subway. There are some parts of Red Hook that are really far from public transport.
Hi:
I am definetly interested, please contact me.
hi Jill,
My apologies for the switch of topic from your open house tour...I'm actually trying to track down a business in Red Hook as recommended by someone in this website in another thread. Below is the only information. Do you or anyone know of this business?
"Patty, who used to work with Barry at General Nightmare on Columbia St, has a shop on Van Brunt St. in Red Hook and does upholstery. It's about 2 doors down from Hope & Anchor."
Thanks!
CT
I'm in! Great idea.
general nightmare is on columbia near ALMA. Atlantis is next to Hope & Anchor. both do refinishing and upholstery. my wife and i may be interested in opening up our home. we're just off columbia. we're never sure where the red hook boundry lies (depending on who you talk to) so i don't know if that needs clarification?
sounds awesome. i love red hook! it's a little gem that has beautiful views of the statue of liberty, a water taxi and fairway! technically red hook is on the columbia side of the bqe though everyone likes to call it Carroll gardens. doesn't matter both areas are far from the subway and beautiful... try margaret palca bakes next to alma.
