Rumor Patrol: Bodum Pushed Out?

10-24-bodum-rumor.jpg

10-24-bodum-logo.jpgPressed for Time! We heard a rumor that Bodum is heading out of the Meatpacking District by the end of the year. A pioneer in the evolution of the neighborhood, we will be sad to see them go! Apparently, the store hasn't been restocking lately as they are slowly preparing for an exit...

Another rumor has them shopping for a new SoHo location, but it appears they will be without a U.S. flagship for a while. Anyone have anymore information?

I've only noticed them not restocking the Ordning & Reda paper items. I would be sad to see them go, too. They have great sales and tasty treats.

I was there a while back and they only mentioned the Ordning & Reda items would no longer be carried there (which is why they all went on sale a few months back). I don't know anything about the whole store closing. That would be sad.

I heard that one of the managers there say they were leaving too (as I scored a teapot set for $10)...

I often wonder how difficult it is for many retail operations to be profitable in this new age of internet shopping.

I don't know why they are leaving but I wonder if it is as simple as, "how many French presses and carafes to we have to sell to be profitable in the Meatpacking district?"

Art — I am sure their rent got hiked to astronomical levels. They are next to Alexander McQueen and the largest Apple Store is due to open a few doors down. Prices in the MePaDi are skyrocketing! I used to work across the street and they were ALWAYS busy, expecially with tourists on the weekend.

packers of meat are leaving too... i for one will miss the stench of rancid blood while dining at pastis. it was so great to be eating outside with diesel fumes, raw sewage and festering puddles of? people are dumb.

This, as many NY retail locations are not all about profits, but about branding. That is the only reason Home Depot is there.
Thier 3 stores will never turn a profit, but are a huge ego thing for the former CEO. (Don't be too surprized to see them exiting either btw).

If they can't make it in the Meat Packing district you can bet they won't be going to Soho either.

frontiersperson, you should try the stainless insulated one. It's pretty and it doesn't break. :)

We were in Bodum this past weekend and scored beautiful chef knives. 4 in the set: $99 when everyone knows a great chef's knife can go for twice that alone. Sad to see them go at any price.

I replaced our (broken) glass sleeve with a polycarbonate one years ago, because my wife kept breaking them. Since then I have not needed a replacement.

I think Bodum would do more sales in Soho, since meatpacking is full of gawkers and fashiony types, while Soho is rapidly becoming the mall of america-- lots more actual shopping going on. meantime-- I'm getting me a stainless french press!
