September is Adornment Month!

Defining your style. This month we are focusing on all the little and big ways we add pizzazz and style to our homes. We're looking particularly at high style items like painting with color, wallpaper, artwork and bold accessories that do a lot with a little. We're also interested in your style.

how about eclectic eccentric ethnic modern? I like jetson's-y retro mod and my husband likes tapestries. And we're on a budget.

I'm currently rocking a modern, retro, WASPy, Italianate, Danish mod, Mackenzie-Childs, Lucite, Japanese, Amazon.com thing right now.

the term i actually like for my current home style is "ethnic technicolor baroque." it's a lil bit hollywood regency, a lil of my nigerian heritage, w/strategic uses of high color....

No surprizes there...I would have had another category..."Me Too Mid-Century"....and technically, in the trade, West Elm, CB2, and IKEA would be termed "transitional".

Well, if I remember my design history classes from university correctly, there are only four "styles": historic, traditional, contemporary, and eclectic.

Depending upon my mood, I refer to my eclectic interior as either vest-pocket exotic or boho aristo.

Well, I think that since almost nothing is "pure" the temptation to choose "ecelctic" might be hitting some folks whose stuff is actually more focused than they think.

Meanwhile, I don't think that the word Spartan was meant to mean "from Sparta", it kind of meant sleek and spare.
