What about the children? It's back to school. It's nesting season. It's time to pay attention to all the great decor and design that is aimed at children, from babies to kids in general. And it's time to solve the problem of what to do with all that baby crap.
In the past five years, we have seen a tremendous amount of furnishing and accesssory design aimed at parents (and their friends!) who have wanted a more modern or contemporary children's room to match the rest of their house.
Other parents have simply wanted to implement the more stripped down, modern approach in order to counter the tremendous commercialism and materialism of the children's/baby market.
This month we will be diving into all the design aimed at this problem and blogging all stores, tips and design ideas that we can find to make life at home more beautiful, organized and healthy.
Send us any tips you have and let us know what you think!

What about design ideas for sophisticated, urban 12 year old boys? Images of Steve Mcqueen and Coltrane help, and I definitely want an eclectic mix of treasure chests and comfy chairs but I want it pulled together too. It gets messy so easily that practical, organization tools are essential. Seen any great ideas or have any suggestions?
Thanks much.
I think one of the most important things to remember when decorating a child's room is to decorate it so that the child can grow with it. It is expensive to decorate so you don't want to decorate a child's room that they will be outgrowing within a year or so. You need to buy core pieces of furniture and then add nice bedding that you can change as they grow as well as wall decor, throw pillows etc. Children love to have their own space where they can do crafts, homework, computer work etc. so a nice desk for their room always comes in handy. Add a splash of their favorite colors to really brighten up their room. What an adorable baby! Great baby-butt chair, too!
My daughters are going to be sharing a room and they have been impossible! One has a aversion to all things "girly" and the other is as girly as they come. We finally have found a look that they both love. It will be a kitschy hawaiian/polynesian style of the 40's. Feminine but not girly, blues and greens for my oldest daughter and pink-red hibiscus for my younger girl. They are both thrilled with it and can barely wait to get started.
Since my sons are little and only interested in 'little boy things' like Star Wars, I am mulling over the idea of the mid century 'futuristic' style. You know those old ads from the atomic age of what the next century would be like? Flying cars? Robot maids in every house? People living on the moon? How great would that look for a boys' bedroom?
Style without reverting to Disney Princesses or SpongeBob....although I will admit to a weakness for Superman. :)
I would love to hear any suggestions.
