We had the pleasure of a personal tour of Room & Board's new 2008 collection last week. We also got a better understanding of how this furniture company works and thinks, and how that differentiates them from the rest...

R & B have scooped up the handiwork of Lauren Sanders, showcasing a good deal of her collection that we saw at ICFF last year.

Founded just over 25 years ago by John Gabbert, R & B is a biggish (and growing) Minneapolis company that doesn't try to build anything themselves. Rather they turn to skilled craftsmen, mostly in the USA, and work with them over the years to produce enduring collections at a high quality. This means that they are not designing stuff and outsourcing it to China like many of the others do. This also means that they stick with a smaller and more versatile group of collections and work on making pieces transformable so that customers can mix and match finish, size and shape.

The star of the 2008 collection is this reissued Hans Wegner lounger - not seen since 1951

The 2008 collection is only a slight variation on their themes, but it was clear that color and contrast were IN. As we walked around, we snapped pics of some of the new and notable items. Go ahead and click through our slideshow and you can read our short notes on the side of each pic to see all the hotness.

Brilliant idea to have sleeper sofas with an aerobed mattress instead of the uncomfortable mattress kind.

looks great, so when in 2008, will the 2008 collection be in the store?

Actually Jennifer Convertibles has an Aerobed type topper for one of their sleepers. I used it as my bed for awhile and loved it.

My sister has a sectional sleeper with an Aerobed. I've used it many times - very comfortable. I think she got it at Macy's or Bloomingdale's several years ago.
