To date we've now got 50 colors in the ColorVault, and we're looking for more. Send us your colors, and we'll keep them safe for you (see info below).
The ColorVault is a place online where people can send the names and pictures of the paints theyve used in their homes so that when they need to remember them later on, they can.
The ColorVault would also double as an archive of paint colors and what they actually look like, so that if you were thinking of painting your wall, say Dove Gray, you could go look up other peoples homes that have used it. As far as we know there is nothing like this online right now and it would be a real help to many who wrestle with paint colors.
Ultimately we would develop the ColorVault so that people could download their own information and pictures and retrieve it at will (names would always be kept private), but we want to start to seed the Vault by hand, so we are throwing an offer out to you. Send us a picture and your color with the following info and we'll enter you in right away.
A good picture of the color in your home

After we enter this into our database, we'll send you a confirmation. Whenever you want to remember your colors, simply send us an email and we'll send you back all the information. And when we have this automated, you'll be able to access it yourself.
Send all ColorVault info to Justine(at)apartmenttherapy(dot)com and put COLORVAULT in the subject line.
Best, Maxwell
Dude. What a great idea.
fantastic idea.

What a resource that will be! I would add to that list of information: primary direction that the room faces, so we can see how different colors work with grey north-facing light vs. bright south-facing...
Great Idea - but very provocative tag line!
I noticed that many people just post the name of the color by a manufacturer. I think what would be most beneficial to readers would be a posting of the
1. color formula
2. finish (matte, semigloss etc.)
3. the type of paint - latex, oil, woodstain, laquer etc.
4. the type of lighting, Flourescent, incandescent, morning, evening etc.
5. The manufacturer - last but not least.
This is much more specific than "greenish grey" or "spring sunrise". Most color formulas are located on a sticker on the top of the can,
terrific idea. thanks for following through on it.
fantastic idea!
Love the idea- perfect for someone like me who is always googling a paint name to see if there are any hits that include pics of a room painted with that specific color! This will be soooo useful...! Definitely agree with Stacey M re locations/light- I know from experience that the same color that looks awesome in a basement apt could look terrible used in a first-floor living room. Natural lighting vs artificial changes the color!
This is an awesome idea. I just bought a brand new condo and have been trying to figure out what colour to paint the place. Right now, the colour is a very bland construction white. I've been searching all over the net for something like this. When do we get to start accessing this information?
omg, i swear to you i just came to the site to see if you had anything like this. can't wait! when will it be live?
brilliant!
COLOR VAULT: Brilliant idea! How do we get into the Color Vault, though? I wasn't able to see the 26 colors you already have.... until you're waiting to accumulate more colors before putting them "up" on the site?
I don't quite get it.If you're looking for colors to create an accessible database for other people to be able to access,I think you need to make it a little more clear as the primary purpose of the "vault". If the primary purpose is really to hold people's colors for them, they can do that themselves in a file on their computer.
Someone please set me straight here. Am I being obtuse?
Phyllis, thanks for asking that question. I thought I was crazy. Are we missing something?
Alisa, I think the point is to be able to see what a color looks like in a room. So if I'm thinking about using SW Surf Blue, I can search, and see what it looks like in someone elses house....although now that I re-read the first part of the post I understand why you are asking this question.
Is this ever going to be accessible to the public? Just wondering, because that seems like the primary draw, and I'm not clear that this ever will be...or how many colors need to be included for it to be "open."
Lauren:
I don't think it's available to us yet and it's still a work in progress.

SUCH a great idea!
That dolphin fin blue someone used in their bedroom yesterday NEEDS to get in here! :)
Great idea!
I know this is a stupid question, but ... How do I get to the colorvault?
Really looking forward to the ColorVault's online debut!
kristin -
It sounds like they don't think they have quite enough "deposits" to show it off yet.
