This Old House is Coming to NYC

0613_toh.jpg

Are you renovating in the big city? Do you dream of the team from the original fix-it television show, This Old House, swooping in and doing the job for you? Well, right now just might be your chance, because the show is calling for entries for a home to renovate in New York City, preferrably Manhattan.

In addition to looking for a home to renovate, This Old House is also wanting to hear from native New-Yorkers on the best neighborhood in which to choose a house for the show. What would you tell them? How do you feel about their preference for a Manhattan residence?

Detailed criteria for those interested can be found here. (photo via This Old House)

i'd tell them to hit up an old flailing brownstone in a not-quite-gentrified-but-damn-right-historic neighborhood.

if they go into some rich neighborhood, like the nantucket of nyc... grrr.

Given that they are interested in a house in Manhattan rather than a condominium or co-op, they automatically limit themselves to multimillion dollar properties. I guess this project will be another one of those "dream house" type series rather than the more down-to-earth projects they usually do.

i think they should stick to above 125th - maybe an old harlem brownstone that's yet to be restored or something. still million dollar properties, but at least more socially considerate? :)

I live in a old, east harlem brownstone that needs MAD work. The space is unique, historic and gorgeous, but if no one renovates, it will continue to rot to the ground. (hopefully not while I'm living there).

Unfortunately, I'm a renter. Too bad they can't do a "we'll do what the the owner of the building )who is too busy to come down from his McMansion in Conneticut to hire a decent contractor) won't do for these awesome, deserving people"

Go into an ethnic neighborhood - Astoria, Queens or Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
