Gospel. If they say it, we will come (no pun intended). Actually, we went over to check out Elle Decor because Someone pointed out that on the cover of the WHAT'S HOT NOW ISSUE, they were featuring RED CORAL (and someone else said this was SO yesterday).
They also have a few other things that we were interested in:

Is it real coral or a resin replica? Some corals have almost been harvested to extinction to feed a demand for luck amulets and decorative objects (hardly lucky for the coral).
Looks like Ruzetti and Gow to me...
If you follow the link, it says they are porcelain.
ohdearGOD I LOVE those crystal lamps. (The adorable) Thomas O'Brien strikes again!
the cord dangling from the midsection of the solid crystal lamps is a bummer, though, like seeing toilet paper dragging off Catherine Deneuve's heel.
LOL! That's quite the analogy, Ann!
I agree... hilarious!! Go, ann!
Ann, I thought the same thing when I saw the lamps. The cords are a flaw. I'm sure Mr. O'Brien lost some sleep thinking about those cords.
Ooooh, let's talk about Mr. O'Brien losing sleep some more!
This is just my humble opinion but I think the American Elle Decor is frumpy and boring compared to the UK Edition, which is sexy and sleek and witty.
The American version seems like old-lady stuff... ditto for House Beautiful. If I see another faux farmhouse with distressed wood tables -- and the uptight chintz tea party look that won't die. "Let's pretend we're old British Ladies." Oy, come into the 20th century, at least.
I guess they show that stuff because that's what their readers like?
I'm sure there are people out there who like these mags, just airing my two cents.
Rob
Rob, I completely agree with you. American design mags just don't do it for me. My favorite magazine is Living Etc - it's British as well.
My favorite by far is Canadian House & Home. Perhaps not the edgiest of interiors, but nice variety and a great overriding aesthetic.
(and I am a big fan of Dominique Browning of House & Garden, most notably for her always-poignant editor's page-- with a fresh, unique, sensitive perspepctive. Rounding out the H&G reader experience is the ALWAYS hilarious Mayer Rus, whose quippy, acidic take on trend, fad and foible elicits more than one audible laugh...)
