Fab prefab. Starting last January, Dwell Magazine held a contest, dubbed The Dwell Home, to see what firm could come up with the best plan for a 2,000 square foot prefab home that would cost less than 200K. Sixteen firms entered, one won (Resolution: 4 Architecture), and the result has already been built and moved into. The finished house was assembled in North Carolina and has 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Pretty impressive, but not as impressive as this cool digital rendering. (via MoCoLoco) MGR

It wasn't helped by the overwhelming heat (what were the Dwell PR people thinking--North Carolina in mid July is a sauna on a good day), but the house itself was somewhat underwhelming (not to mention it looks nothing like the image above). Finish levels were pretty low, and space usage is somewhat lacking. Not for the broad shouldered, as the hall passages were pretty tight.
Overall, neat, but not a strong ad for prefab housing. They could've done better on the day.
