Julia has written a couple of books on pet design at home and has a pet column in the New York Post Living. She is a big advocate of dog and cat rescue and has helped many people bring pets into their home without sacrificing style.

Julia emphasized how much of a catalyst a pet could be for good design in the home. One's pet should encourage comfort and safety, but should not diminish a beautiful aesthetic, modern design, and/or luxury in the home. With a few thoughtful steps, Julia noted, this can all happen.

Tips included:
• Choose leather chairs with chrome or metal legs to minimize the chewing factor.
• Keep the floors clean and 'cleanable' with hardwood floors or poured concrete floors without rugs.
• Use non-toxic, non-chemical based cat litter to prevent odd smells and cat illnesses
• Upholster furniture in brushed micro-fiber/velvet, in colors that match your pet's hair
• Adapt products to your needs--ie. pile some large throw pills to make a dog bed
