I have very little faith in websites that refuse to post prices.

I love the look of sliding doors on the barndoor tracks... but I have wondered whether they would be practical for settings where you actually need sound mitigation and privacy, i.e., bathroom or bedroom. It seems like even with the door "shut," you still have this large gap around the perimeter of the door...

Greeps, I agree with you on the pricing or lack thereof. Same goes with e-tailers that only deal with the design/architectural community...

That was my concern as well, sound dampening. Also, the extra length of track that you need for the door to open cuts into wall space.

I really don't have a problem with sites like this not posting prices because all applications are different. Many of these companies are manufacturers and have operated as commercial suppliers. I'm sure that the reason they have a snappy photo in a design magazine and nice pictures on the internet is because someone at the company with vision saw the opportunity to tap into a growing residential market. But I would imagine that just like commercial jobs, there are so many variables to take into consideration that it wouldn't be efficient to put pricing on the site. I'm sure if you sent a quick sketch and description of the job they could generate a quote for you.

I plan on using a similar system to hide my wall mounted tv. I won't be speaking with these guys since they don't post their prices. I learned about this company from Dwell Mag but if prices are a secret then I don't bother. You can do a barndoor relatively simply pricing is mainly just the hardware-barn door hardware mechanisms are quite showy which equates to $$$ and hardly necessary for the effect most are looking for.

Well, unlike some of the other fraidy-cats who commented here, I wasn't detered by the lack of prices onthe website. I simply called up and asked...and FYI, there's a reason they don't list prices: These pieces are custom, and the price fluctuates based on the weight of the door and the width of the opening. Having said that, the three items I priced out were around $1,700, $2,000, and $3,000 per door (slightly less than double that for a double door). That's quite a lot of money in my book, but for the right client, I would use them. I've yet to see something as attractive, so I would wait for a special project to use them on.

I'm looking for the same answers - where to get decently priced hardware that looks good. And I am definitely open to DIY options.

I just got off the phone with Steve at Barn Door Hardware, and they actually have a very reasonably priced product called flat track which runs about $240 per door for the hangers and $12/lf for the track. Also spoke to someone at Crown Industrial (http://www.crown-industrial.com) and their price was $200 for the pair of hangers and $8/lf for the track. Hope this helps some of you!
