2005_3_9_sur.JPGNot really French. Another Northwest import, Sur La Table is a "good alternative to Williams Sonoma" and the employees "are often knowledgeable about cooking." They stock a "good selection of serious cook's tools" and are "smaller" and "family owned," which gives you a "good feeling."

All true. Even though they have grown since being bought and run by the Behnke family in 1995, Sur La Table retains a small town feeling with quality and customer service kept at a high level. Even if you don't need anything, browsing a Sur La Table store will inspire you. They also have a registry (we registered but didn't get anything!). (Thanks to Joey for reminding us!) MGR

It's worth noting to anyone planning to visit when they come to Seattle that the address above on 6th Ave S is their warehouse and HQ not open to the public.

Their flagship retail outlet is located in Pike Place Market, is hard to miss, and is PACKED with all kinds of great stuff.

Sur La Table is great for a chain, but for NYC, there are too many amazing kitchen stores to need SLT. I recently fell in love with Zabar's which has a much better selection and is cheaper than SLT.

And there are SLTs all over the country.

Looks like they're going to open in Soho this summer.

According to Seattle Business Journal on Feb 7 -
"The company signed a 10-year lease on a 10,000-square-foot space on Spring Street in New York City's SoHo District..."

They'll be at 75 Spring Street.
