"Long and steady" is their motto. Tortoise is a shop started by a husband and wife who recently moved to LA from Tokyo. They started up in response to the modern-day irony of extended human lifespan versus increasingly disposable man-made products.
Their eloquent and thoughtful mission statement is an inspiration in itself. And the online shop features a careful selection of home goods that are made for appreciation and long, useful lives.

my boyfriend and i were strolling along abbot kinney when we first stumbled into this little shop. so many unique and beautiful items, such a great aesthetic! plus, i love their motto and mission statement. i remember there were these ceramic cups in the shape of plasticware--how did they find such a great embodiment of their statement on the irony of life's longevity vs. disposable goods? perfect.
