Bigger is better. We got so beat up last week recommending Lighting By Gregory and then having all these negative comments about the store come in, that we are giving it another shot (btw - the comments were much appreciated).
YLighting is a recent find. A true internet business, it was started in 2001 and now boasts that it is the largest U.S. online retailer of contemporary lighting. Their aim has been to do what DWR has done for modern furniture: make it accessible and always in stock. Oh, but there is one thing YLighting does that DWR doesn't, it keeps its prices low.
What you will find: standard and hard to find lighting, floor and table lamps, indoor and outdoor lighting, track and recessed lighting, as well as fans. Most major brands are reprsented, including cool European companies such as Flos, Foscarini and Luceplan.
And Price? Good, but didn't blow us away.
We priced the Tolomeo classic table lamp:
YLighting - $291
Artemide - $265
DWR - $320
And the Pablo Pardo Ventana Lamp:
YLighting - $722
Pablo Designs - $750
DWR - $750
Of course, YLighting will sell itself by having everything in stock and ready to ship (heard that before?) and with lighting, this can make a huge difference. MGR

I bought the offi woody chalkboard table and chairs for my kids (bent plywood) from Ylighting. I chose ylighting because they were cheaper than other stores (compared it to Yoyamart and modernseed.com), free shipping, and at the time I found an online coupon for $25 off a purchase of $200 or more. So I give them a big thumbs up. Havent actually bought lights yet from them but I totally would. So moral of the story is if you are going to buy from any online retailer always google their name and the word coupon.
I bought a bunch of track and pendant lights from YLighting a few months back. Good site, knowledgable salespeople (w/ online chat), and they delievered everything on time. I definitely recommend them.
B.
YLighting is great - I bought Luceplan fixtures from them - ordered on Sunday and they arrived on Tuesday. Cheapest price, plus no tax, plus no shipping and $25.00 off coupon.
In LBG's defense, I went there first and was treated very well. There price was the same as the base price at YLighting, but other advantages saved quite a bit of money by going with Ylighting. Also, almost all of the Bowery Lighting stores are creepy - you walk in and immediately are told that everything is 40% off, blah, blah, blah. They almost all feellike firetraps too.
I usually go to Lighting by Gregory to look at fixtures, then search online to buy them. Even if LBG could match the price (they never can) the tax savings makes it worth it. And when I'm buying some modern, euro fixture, ylighting is usually where it comes from. I believe the stuff is drop shipped from various distributor warehouses, but it's just as fast as "in stock". The price comparison above for the Tolomeo isn't really fair, since artemidestore.com kills everyone's pricing on this line. And they usually have a special deal. Right now it's buy one, get one for half price.
Recently I had the pleasure of working with YLighting as their knowledgeable design staff was able to put together a lighting system for my new place. Blair (the salesperson) dialed in my taste within a matter of minutes. I did not have the same experiece at Lighting by Gregory, the salesperson was rude and very condesending. He did not take the time nor did he seem to care about what I wanted. I would defiently not recommned using them, and encourage every person to take a look at YLIGHING.COM. Knowledge, price and wickdly fast shipping will make everyone who stops by them very happy that they did.
YLighting is absolutley incredible! Everyone very knowledgeable and competitively priced. I was really impressed by the wide selection from various line they carry. The Bruck and Artemide selections are very reasonably priced considering they are beautifully manufactured. As opposed to the Lighting by Gregory associates who are not very knowledgeable and not very helpful. There is not as wide of a selection as there is on the YLighting site. LBG is not what I would recommend to any one buying any lighting any time soon.
YLighting is the place to get service! The lighting retailer should be scared. YLighting is amazing and is way above the alteratives. They keep you posted on everything start to finish. I would recommend this company to anybody who wants to deal with professionals. Pick up the phone ask a question and they will help, no questions asked-no hard sales pitch. These guys are there to help(with experience!!!!). I have been buying lighting for years. YLighting is my new oasis!!!
I just moved into my new apartment and needed some ceiling fans. I found the fans i wanted at ylighting. They carry Modern Fan Co. which have the look and quality i was looking for. To my surprise the fans shipped the same day! The sales person was very intelligent and made my decision easy. I definitely recommend.
You should also check lightology.com. They have great selection of contemporary lighting online and their Chicago showroom is just amazing. They have good prices too - Tizio table lamp is even cheaper than at ylighting.com!
Bought several very expensive pendant lights. Opened up after having them for four months during a remodel and discovered one with a broken glass shade. We called YLighting and they sent a new shade out via overnight FedEx at no cost. Similar experience of excellent customer service on a follow-on purchase. I'm a very tough grader and this company definitely rates an A!
YLighting is the BEST! I had been shopping around for the Cortina lamp by Pablo Pardo and while it could be found in many stores (online and brick-and-mortar) the prices all seemed to be the same.
I wanted to take advantage of DWR's no s/h promotion but the only sizes available at this retailer were the 24" and 48" versions.
Since I was in the market for the 72" version, I kept on looking until I came about YLighting. Not only did they sell the 72" version but free s/h is offered for any purchase over $50.00. I went ahead and purchased not only the 72" but the 24" as well.
My purchases came in about two weeks later (they shipped directly from Pablo Pardo in San Fran) and I have been a happy customer since.
The transaction was very easy to accomplish due to YLighting's simple webpage ordering. From now on, if I have any other lighting/ceiling fan needs, I will NOT hesitate to visit YLighting for their wide selection of items, competitive pricing and, above all, FREE shipping.
