It is actually pretty nice here this week, warm days and semi-cool nights. We'll see if the weather holds up though! We've had some really nasty weeks at the end of June and in July. Enjoy your visit:)

it is nice right now. i like needing a sheet at night.
just read in "budget decorating" magazine that John Derian is doing a short-term line at Target starting the middle of September. They pictured two pretty trays in the magazine. I wish NYC stores weren't so poorly stocked, especially on stuff like this.

I am moving to a space with an upstairs "loft" area accessible via a steep staircase with a 36" x 50" opening. The area itself is decent size, but the stairway opening is too small to get a mattress/boxspring through. I have decided on a platform bed, hopefully king size, but queen will do. Does anyone have resources for a flat-pack platform bed? How about split mattresses? Any advice?

Robyn, Walmart (yes, I know) carries a "mattress in a box." This might work for you for the mattress. IKEA platform bedframes are flat pack and do not usually require a box spring.

robyn, though I don't use one myself and have heard stories of gross off-gasing, maybe try a memory foam mattress? They usually arrive packaged in a tube and then you cut the packaging off and let it fill up with air to reach the actual size.

Robyn - the Sonno mattresses from DWR arrive in a vacuum-packed cardboard cylinder...I found it very easy to move around before we unpacked it and the foam filled with air!

Thanks for the tips. I am so scared of that Walmart "mattess in a box" .... what the heck are they giving you for $400 for a queen size matress? The description on their website says it is Made in the USA and/or Imported. What does that mean? I wish I could find an organic matress in a box ... that woudl be perfect!
