Does anyone know where to get a sputnik hanging ceiling light with 8-10 arms only for a reasonable price?

Not necessarily looking for an original, vintage version.

Leighf, I googled it but only found 18 arm fixtures. Sorry.

Now, I have a question - where, in Manhattan, can I buy the mechanism for the back of a battery operated clock? I see them online but the shipping is as much as the mechanism. So I'd like to buy one in the city. I've tried hardware stores and second hand stores but no luck yet. Any clues??

i'd just buy a cheap clock and switch it out... maybe?

I am going crazy trying to find the house tour that featured personal photos of the home owners in the bathroom over towel hooks. Can you share that link with me 1 more time?

Anne, have you tried Pearl Paint, over in the craft supply annex? That sort of clock mechanism is pretty commonly carried by craft stores, but I can't think of another in Manhattan.

Do any AT readers have bunkers? If so, do you go with a functional, atom-bomb shelter aesthetic, or a comfortable "woodland modern" motif? Which is to say, will the end come with a bang or a long whimper? thx.

I also remember that the couple didn't feel the home was ready to be toured when first approached.

Ooh, I win for the towel-hook photo link! Chicago tour. I love the blue-green in their kitchen.

Big thanks to you and everyone else that helped me on my mission to sanity.

i know this site has been a topic of discussion, but has anyone ordered from them?

advancedinteriordesigns.com

they have a two-drawer filing cabinet for $200 that's just what i need, and while i did just order a crappy version from staples, i could easily cancel it....

does anyone have experience with them? are they decent, qualitywise? do they deliver in good time?

Rick,

I actually have the DWR modern bunker. It's got a cold-war modernist vibe. It was pretty pricey but when the end comes, what else is there to save up for really?

AT covered 3-form resin panels a while back. Has anyone ordered or worked with this material?

I've fallen in love with some barstools from DWR... the problem is, one set is too expensive and one is too short.

Sooo... does anyone know where I can find a less expensive version of the Allegro barstool: http://www.dwr.com/productdetail.cfm?id=3202

Or a taller version of the Guillietta Counter stool? http://www.dwr.com/productdetail.cfm?id=4726

Hey Luvdecor, you're welcome. To answer your question, um, I guess it's because I'm a hair's breadth from being one of those people who shouts "142!" when a box of matches spills on the floor.

That maybe doesn't make very much sense - let's just say I have Rainman tendencies when it comes to words and images. It probably says a lot if I tell you my favourite-ever job was proofreading dictionaries. (I think I just realised why I can't find a boyfriend...)

Help! I recently made some curtains using Marimekko's Onnen Apila fabric in blue. Now I'm trying to to figure out what to do for a new comfortor/duvet. I collect Lee Eden Big Eye art, so my walls are plastered with colorful pictures, plus the overpowering curtains. The rest of the room is white, furniture included. Any suggestions are appreciated! Wish I could post a pic. If anyone could tell me how/where to do that, it would be great!!!

Thanks

Art, we use 3Form panels a lot where I work (commercial architecture and interiors). They look great installed and I haven't heard anything bad about them. Lots of other companies make similar products -- Knoll's Imago line sandwiches their textiles between two resin panels, and DesignTex Fusion panels are some. What did you want to know?

Thanks AmyV,

I was hoping someone might have experience ordering them and using them for their home. I wouldn't know how much something like that costs.

I wanted to buy some panels to make a couple sliding door panels for a closet office and narrow bathroom closet door.

I was also wondering if the honeycomb material is sound dampening? If so, I wonder if it could be fit into a window frame and siliconed to provide sound dampening while still letting light through.

unrelated to the 3Form, I was wondering if anyone can find a link to a previous house tour (I believe a Toronto condo) where the designer converted a closet into an office and installed a sliding door.

leighf--I've seen some nice lights on ebay, if you search pendant lamp or pendant light they'll come up. Not sure how many arms they have, but I think they're under $200.

Has anyone ever been to the ABC Carpet and Home Outlets? If so, what are they like compared to the ABC Carpet and Home original in Union Square?

Also, I am trying to find a Louis XVI-inspired kitchen cafe table and chairs set. I saw a limited edition Pier One wicker dinette set like this listed on Craigslist (according to the advertisement, Pier One only manufactured 40 of them), but the posting expired like a day after I found the advertisement. If you can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. I really need the help.

We went to the ABC outlet in the basement of the one at Union Square. We found the sales staff to be very pushy, and they didn't have much in contemporary/modern rugs in the size we were looking for (8x10 or 7x9). Although the prices were deeply discounted, they were still mostly out of our range.

I'd be willing to give them another chance at their Hackensack location, though!

Hackensack is not much of a discount. The sales staff is okay.

Completely random question, I realize: Can anyone recommend a good dentist in the NY metro area? I just need a cleaning and get fitted for a night guard, since I have TMJ and am a horrible teeth-grinder.

Listent to Rachel, in the past I would frequent the Hackensack location. The prices were never that great and merchandise is just ok. If you decide to make that trip to Jersey I would suggest you stop by Homegoods on rt. 23. I was there this week and the rugs were markdown.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a summer duvet insert? I like the weight of my down comforter in the winter but it is much too hot in the summer.

Thanks!

LivingEtc-why is their March issue in the stores at the same time as the Feb? The March issue was out almost at the beginning of Feb. I'm not complaining if their issues are now going to be out much earlier than they used to be (it would sometimes be deep into the month before they appeared, at least in DC). But, thinking I had bought the Feb issue, I didn't realize it was the March issue, until I saw the February issue on the stands - I almost missed it completely. My fave mag!

laura, i just take the comforter out and use the duvet cover by itself. it's like a nice thick sheet, really.

however, come uber summer, i'd prefer to sleep in a slush bath ;)

I need AT's help. I have a had a medical emergency in my family that means I need to move out of my lovely Brooklyn 1 bedroom and try to move in to a handicap accessible 2 bedroom apartment to help care for the sick family member. I am looking for a 2 bedroom on the first floor or in an elevator building in Brooklyn in a safe neighborhood near the train. I am looking for places in Park Slope, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill and Prospect Heights ( basically cause my price point is not more than $2200). If anyone has any leads please email me at trumystique yahoo com . Thanks for any and all leads, AT.

Does anyone else know what I mean by liking the weight of a comforter? No matter how hot it is, I can't sleep with just a sheet! I've seen some light down/ down alt. comforters online but i was hoping someone had experience with them.

The Company Store has some really good lightweight options online. I have the lightest weight one, and it's perfect year round.

I feel the same way, Laura. I need something to snuggle underneath and surround myself with in order to get a really good sleep. It drives my boyfriend crazy! Fortunately I travel for work in the summer, and my job has me stay in a place that over-ACs everything, so my winter-weight comforter works pretty well for me year-round. ;)
