The cover of today's NYT refers to a story in last week's NYT Home section, about a former gang girl that wrote a book and made a cozy home for herself and her daughter in Oregon.

Except it turns out her story was fake.

Her sister saw the House and Home piece and called the publisher...

I hate it when these interesting bios turn out to be fiction - I'd really rather people just write fiction that rings true, instead of lying through non-fiction memoirs of trauma...

You could also go the Ikea route: I bought some wood planks from there, and created my own floating shelves, that I painted a deep chocolate.

Does anybody in NYC know of a good Rug Cleaning company.
I have a small 5x8 wool rug that need to be cleaned and I do

please help me decide....

i took out the wall seperating the wall between my kitchen and dining room. i am going to extend the counter from the kitchen into the dining room and make a bar. the question is, do i leave part of the wall above and install pendant lights to hang down over the bar or do i remove the whole wall and install cans all the way across and new sheet rock for both sides?
