This is more of a "Washington, D.C. open thread" question, but maybe somebody has an idea of the answer... exactly what time are construction workers allowed to start jackhammering in the morning? This morning at 7 am sharp I awoke to really.loud.jackhammering.
Of course, there has been some form of construction going on right next to my apartment for about a year now (and, with the help of a fan, I manage to sleep through it/ignore it). But this morning seemed particularly early. And loud.

Has anyone tried out the new tiffin set from DWR?

http://www.dwr.com/product/tools/house/kitchen/tiffin-lunch-box-set.do?search=basic&keyword=tiffin&sortby=ourPicks&page=1

I'm looking for a neat, plastic-free lunch box solution. I've seen other tiffin sets on reusaublebags.com, but I like how this is a huge set offering three different sizes. And they look pretty. The price is, well, very DWR, but I'm hoping the quality justifies this. Anyone have experience with these? Can they handle liquids like soup okay? Thanks.

I used to live next to the GWB and they did construction through the night for years. 2am dinner break.

I work outside city hall in NYC and the jackhammering starts around 7am.

HollyinDC,
Check with your local police or with the city for the noise regulations in force. Around here, work can begin (at any decibel) level at 7am.

This is a bit off topic, but I came across this great house on another blog, and wanted to share it with you:

I love her framed photos.

Anyone here with old issues of Domino that they'd be willing to part with? I live in Prague and have missed the last 3 issues. :-(

Thanks!

you can get less expensive stainless steel tiffin boxes from local Indian supply stores. I got mine for about $11 (three tiered). :-)

Rent law question:

I just got my monthly rent voucher. It has an item BASE RENT AR $100.00. How the f--- can they just raise my rent, midlease, like that? I called the management company and left a voicemail. But WTF?! There was no notice of them even applying for any sort of major capital improvement (plus no major work on the building), nothing in my apt has been repaired or upgraded.

WTF is this?

Stylebites -- You didn't miss anything. I would send you mine, but I tossed them in disgust.

Thanks Monika!
