hey, i asked this in the last open thread, but no go. i'm copying it here, cool?

i love on the sixth floor, with no balcony, and i want a bird feeder (to entertain my cats).

do high-rise bird feeders exist?

like a bird feeder with attachment pieces (magnet, screw) or that's held in place by closing the window on it (like you would an air-conditioner)

suction cupped feeders are truly not stable enough.

any ideas out there?

could you just drill a hole and hang it outside from a hook or a sturdy screw?

I lived on the 8th floor of an apartment building for years and one of my neighbors had some sort of bird feeder/nesting area which attracted mourning doves. It was lovely to hear the whistling of their wings as they took off and the soft cooing.

I don't know how you attract the mourning doves and avoid the pigeons who are also cliff/building nesters.

mjr, thanks for the link! the hanging part can get tricky because things can still fly off a hook or nail. i'm on a main avenue, so i have to be safe. and discreet!

i'd love one that sits the length of the outer window sill, and that has a lip that my window closes down on to hold it in place.

doesn't that sound like it should exist somewhere out there? ;)

I'm getting my living room floor and sub-floor ripped up and repaired, which should take 3-4 days according to the contractor.

The problem is, it's a one-room apartment and I have two cats, and I'd like to keep them out of harm's way.

Can anybody recommend a good cat boarding service? The vet won't keep them overnight unless they're sick, which makes sense, since you wouldn't want to vacation at a hospital.

No Open Thread on the L.A. site right now, so I'm posting this here... Funny anecdote: my "stop-and-chat" with Jonathan Adler. [Forgive me for channeling Rona Barrett and Gawker Stalker.]

The other night, as I was walking out of the Apple at the Beverly Center (shopping mall here in L.A.), I see Jonathan Adler. Nattily-dressed in a navy jacket and white pants, cute as button, and looking just like he does in all of his press photos.

As we approach to pass each other, I blurt out: "Jonathan Adler, we love you!" He stops and says, "Aw, that's so sweet. Thank you." I tell him that I'd actually met him at a book-signing at his store a year and a half ago. The funny thing was he remembered meeting me and said: "Apartment Therapy, right?" [How about that, AT? The Jonathan name-checking you!]

We chat about him being in town to shoot season two of Top Design in downtown L.A. And I tell him that the location was all over the Curbed L.A. website. He says, "The funny thing about that location is that there's a porn studio on the floor directly above our location." And at times, they get to ovehear some pretty loud and boisterous pornstar action--which is pretty funny.

We chat some more about Simon Doonan. And he tells me that after the Top Design shoot, he's flying to London to meet up with Simon. One of the television companies has optioned Simon's book "Nasty" and shooting on the series is beginning shortly. Then we say our goodbyes.

We are so BFF. I'm totally inviting myself over for dinner... Kidding.

Melinda -- I thought I saw a commercial about a new service at PetSmart. It's a boarding service but appeared more upscale. The last time I was in the store I picked up a brochure but have either discarded it or misplaced it. Call the store or visit their website. If you do decide to use the service, tell us how they (you) liked it. Good luck.

HELP. We're installing mosaic glass tile in our bathroom on the lower half of the wall (the top half is painted). My contractor thinks we need to put up something between the edge of the tile and the painted wall. I disagree but I wanted to show him some options. Any ideas on where to find photos? If we don't leave the edge plain I was thinking of doing a wooden chair rail out of quarter round.

mdeathstar, without a cap tile/bullnose tile/molding, i think it looks funny or not finished. some tiles have cap/bullnose tiles in the same style (one side has a sloped edge, finishing it flush to the wall), otherwise there's, like, border tiles which i think tends to make stuff busybusy.

I just got home and it does need something. I don't want to use tile - would molding work? a picture rail? anyone with a more creative idea?

I've been trying to track down a post from the last couple of months without much success with the google search function - maybe someone can help?

It was an AT: Europe house tour (I think paris) and featured a v. small kitchen with a great use of space and small butcher block island. If anyone remembers other details to quickly scrounge up a link, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
