I have a dark cherry sleigh bed in our bedroom and I'd like to add in some slightly more modern elements via nightstands or dressers. Can anyone suggest how I should do this? Should I try to stick to this dark cherry theme (there's not much in the way of modern) or what would be a decent compliment? Our taste is pretty eclectic. Thanks!

Nothing says spring like admiring the Beresford from Central Park.

allief -

Have a look at that little curvy part at the ends that define it's "sleigh-bed-ness" and find something modern that reflects that curve. That way the two disparate styles will be tied together by something they have in common.

You know... kind of like how you can KIND of see a family resemblance between me and my grandmother, even though I'm merely middle-aged and photos are all that's left of her.

I would stay away from more cherry. You might consider playing with glossy white (plastic or painted) tables, or perhaps something lucite. Another option might be to find a modern fabric that you love and make some inexpensive night stands out of those cheap cardboard tables.

mdeathstar makes a good point about staying from more cherry. If you do take my idea, see if you can find whatever modern thing it would be in one of the more obscure colors that you use in your bedding or something, so that the color refers to one element in the room and the shape refers to the that curvy part of the bed.

I think that at any "party" everyone needs to have things in common with (or know) at least 2 other people, and the same thing with decor in rooms.

hey everybody-this is carried over from yesterday's open thread when I asked "is it ever ok to block a window with furniture?"

Someone told me "hell no!", while one other said "hell yea!" and one said "do what u gotta do for the space" and one who wanted to klnow more, so here goes...

To be expound on my dilemma, i bought a huge wardrobe (pax from ikea), that takes up the length of one whole wall.

Only 3 of the walls are long enough to accommodate its size, one of which is a wall with a window.

The window wall also just happens to be the most space effective wall to use, as placement anywhere else would severely inhibit my bed position and block one side of my underbed storage.

i should add that is not my only window, there is another window in the room so i would still have fresh air and natural sunlight. also, and this is an added benefit, the large unit blocks the window that faces the street in my ground floor unit, so it's kinda like poor people ADT.

Thanks!
