But, alas, I don't have $20K budgeted for that. I figure some of that price is in the wood (mesquite). Anyone have any ideas for similar beautiful stuff not priced in the stratosphere (preferably vintage or old)? What I like about it is that particular simple style, which highlights the wood. Not restricted to mesquite.

I'm looking for a cute bistro table set for my studio apartment. Can anyone give me suggestions on where I can look for one online?

Pixie, I think it's more the designery Tribeca thing that accounts for the cost than the type of wood, I'm a Texas gal and we use mesquite for BBQ-ing, so I don't think it's that precious or rare at all. But sorry I haven't seen anything like it.
Charlie Rose had a fascinating feature about "Design and the Elastic Mind" which ends at the Museum of Modern Art the 12th. I urge you to go if you can. I'll have to settle for online version.

The window treatment posts are well timed today because I just moved into a new place and have misfitting curtains that were left in one room and nothing in any other room.
I'm debating between sheer curtains and honeycomb blinds. I don't want to block the light, but it is a southern facing apartment and it will probably get warm in the summer, so some insulation would be good. Also, I probably need a little privacy, but I don't mind if people can see shapes moving around. Which should I choose?

I just love this furniture in this week's NYT House and Garden, esp the dresser:
