Am looking for an oval piece of glass to use as the top of a side table - any ideas where to look? (other than craigslist)

I'd prefer not to get something custom made.

Morning.

Any suggestions on where I may find a glass table top? I need a small oval one for a side table.

(I have looked and looked on Craigslist, and am giving up)

Judging by your name...there is an auto glass place on Atlantic in Clinton Hill that cuts glass for real cheap. I know you don't want to go custom, but I got two table tops custom cut (about 3.5'x1.5' each) for $50 total. That's pretty cheap, if you ask me, unless you had another reason you didn't want to get it custom made...

To bklyn413,

Having custom glass cut is actually very affordable. I have uses Clinton Glass for this myself for years, not just because Bill is in my neighborhood, but his prices are the best I know in Manhattan, and he's a real good guy.

666 9th Avenue
(212) 242-1350

I was actually a little surprised just now to see that he has a website:
http://www.clinton-glass.com/

See here on Google maps.
His gate is closed in the street view, but that's his little shop:

cheers,
Chris

Thanks so much for the suggestions amt230 & chris. I didn't realize custom was that cheap.

And, sorry for the double post earlier - my first didn't appear to go thru.

'member for the Apartment Therapy web redesign when there were links to some of the features, such as "Top Ten," "Good Questions," etc.?

I'm really missing these, and am wondering how others find what they are looking for on the site. I understand that one can google for these, but it would be great to be able to browse them instead of having to know what I'm looking up before I look it up...know what I mean?

I find that when I search for it on the site (say, "Good Question" "coffee table") I don't get many responses OR I get so many that it's impossible to go through them all. It would be so great to be able to just browse ALL the Good Questions.

Can anybody help?? Thanks!!

I need some quick advice on a project I am having done this week. We're getting a new linoleum floor in the bathroom and the contractor is insisting that vinyl cove base is the best solution to finish the floor to the sheetrock walls. I think vinyl cove base looks too institutional. The floor is beige-y/grey/white and the walls will be a grey-blue -- the vinyl base samples he showed me were a few different shades of beige (none of which particularly matched the floor). I want wood base molding painted white (like the rest of the house), but he says this never works well in the bathroom -- too much moisture, it takes a beating from mopping the floor, etc. Anyone have opinions or experiences with this??

I picked up an antique flamed mahogany pedestal side table this weekend and am trying to learn as much about it as I can. The pedestal has a delicate herringbone carving on it. Can you direct me to any websites/resources that might help me narrow down the style and/or the era it was likely made so I can continue my research?

robyn, I have white painted wood molding in my bathroom and have had no problems with it. I have a ventilation fan in there and mop with a microfiber cloth on my Swiffer mop so it's not getting splashed with lots (or ANY for that matter) of water. I can't imagine you having a problem unless you were sloshing around bucketsful of water.

Robyn, you also have the option of using a non-wood moulding material, like MDF. They come pre-primed and everything. Lowes and Home Depot carries it.

The vinyl cove base is impossible to keep clean and it tends to warp with fluctuations in temperature. It will look like crap pretty quickly.

It seems like for months there was competition for running the D.C. and Boston sites. Now it seems that they're just being incorporated into the NY site. Weren't they supposed to branch out into their own pages just like SF, Chicago and LA or was I totally wrong in this assumption?

wanderinglight, I feel your pain. Before AT started experimenting with new formats the search was so easy and invaluable. Now it sucks. I've given up using it because I can't find the recommendations for vendors and laborers like I could on the old format. But don't hold your breathe that they'll ever go back to something so beautifully simple and useful.

wanderinglight,

Just click on the first good question you see and inside you will find a link to all good questions. Unfortunately the link is not correct at the moment by you can fix it by changing apartmeanttherapy to apartmenttherapy in the address bar.

eebnyc - agreed. I thought under the community section might make sense, but I couldn't find them there. I had to go back a whole bunch in the archives to find a NY Finds post or whatever and get the link there.... bummer.

Please bear with me! I'm in desperate need of help!

I just moved into a tiny Village studio (18' x 14.5' is the main room) two weeks ago. I have a LOT of closet space a little attic, and a balcony with table and chairs outside one window. It is FLOODED with sun throughout the day, and I get to see the sunset every night out of my window! I have an eclectic style and a low budget. It's a complete work in progress and I don't know where to begin! I'm open to disposing and replacing anything within a modest budget. I have so many concerns that I feel posting some photos and asking for general advice is the best way to go.

Please ignore the numerous floor lamps in the photos - I had a few from my old apartment and the previous tenant left some (PS: anyone in NY need a floor lamp, 25" Sanyo TV?)

Here are some of my main concerns, but if anyone

Dark wood furniture in half of the studio/light wood in the other half

I need curtain panels but have no idea what color scheme might work.

My bedspread needs updating and I need throw pillows for my bed and couch, and I have no idea what to do about rugs!

I need a work station of sorts. Nothing crazy, just a table and chair for a laptop.

The big shelf unit between the windows. The previous tenant left it for me because I thought I wanted it, but I don't need it for the storage and now it's annoying me (does anyone want this?).

ETC. ETC. ETC.

When you enter the studio, there is a hallway with the bathroom and closet on either side. This is the view from the hallway (it bothers me that I "walk into" my bed, but if I put the bed on the other side of the studio, it's near the kitchen. Not sure what to do!)

This is the view from the little kitchen:

Any advice in general would be greatly appreciated!
I'm desperate and need inspiration before I can get started! I'm overwhelmed!

I just posted two sets of furniture - well priced - on the classifieds - also posted on craigslist. if anyone needs a huge wall unit, sort of countryish style, super reasonable, check it out. Couch, desks, bunk beds, etc.

whoa it's me - Do you have the AT Cure book? If not, buy it immediatly or rent it from the library. It talks a lot about defining your style, looking through photos from inspiration and colors/concepts you want to add to your space, furniture layout, etc. I think it would help you enormously. The only other thing I would say is to live in the space for a bit before buying any huge furniture purchases. Do a floorplan, do a couple floorplans on paper or online, think it through, make lists, comparison shop and take your time :)

I just came across what could be a great idea for all those folks looking to do something easy and cool and different to their long narrow hallways (or any wall/area actually).
