So, the transit strike CONTINUES, and we are now confined to bed for a second day with amoxicillin and lots of liquids (interestingly, we were using the neti pot when we got this infection). That said, spending this much time at home really makes you appreciate all the work you've done on it...

No letters to the editor with design problems?

posted by Felididad on 2005-12-21 10:04:49

OK - design question:

Is it possible to get a sleek, beautiful looking chair that is also comfortable for reading? I want the stream-lined look of a simple, maybe angular, upholstered beauty but with the feel of "grandpa's favorite comfy chair" - am I dreaming or is this possible? I loved that soft-bluish-grey one on the LA AT site a little bit ago but I'm wondering if I'd miss arms on a chair when curling up to read.

OK - I'm open to opinions and suggestions (mind you - this is likely a future purchase as I'm basically broke right now).

Libby - have you looked at the Arnez chair at Room and Board? I've used it in client's homes and it's just the right size, has great lines and is comfy.

Check out the Grace as well.

Thanks Anne, I am actually planning to make a similiar purchase for the new apartment my husband and I just moved into and had Libby's exact request. These are two great suggestions, thank you.

Thanks anne - I like both of those and it's nice to hear from someone who can attest to the comfort level. I'm thinking that if I opted for an ottoman, maybe that would allow for the curling up/propping to settle in for reading if the chair doesn't have arms for leaning into?

ok, Felididad, this isn't exactly a design problem, as much as a design-er problem. if i have the furniture that i want, but want help picking wall colors and accessorizing, will i find a designer to help? i've also bought hundreds of yards of fabric for window treatments, but have no idea where to have them made or what shape they should take -- would a professional designer take on a job like that? finally, where would i find someone whom i like and who would be willing to take on what i'm assuming is a smaller job than usual? thanks, pros!

i also recommend the Grace chair by Room & Board, both for looks & comfort. i tried sprawling & lounging around in it at the store, envisioning it as a reading chair, & really loved it. my boyfriend & i ended up ordering it (as pictured in the link above, in a grey boucle or whatever it's called--i like that tweedy stuff), to be delivered in January.

Has anyone bought a rug from modernrugs.com? Wondering how WYSIWYG the rugs are - they look cool on screen. Like this one
http://www.modernrugs.com/index_main.html?http://www.modernrugs.com/cgi-bin/order_page.pl?photo_id=15_HST_3017_grn-brn

It's hard to tell with these large designs how the rug would look on a floor and there are few photos on the site to give you a sense of it. And, quality?
