Just a random FYI. A while back someone posted a link to Flying Beds and there was a lot of discussion as to what would happen to the shelves when you lowered the bed. Well, they installed one of those beds on Extreme Home Makeover and showed it fully with fully stocked desk/shelves and opened up the bed. The whole thing moved like a fine piece of machinery. Did anyone else see this?

I finally got around to checking out the Shelter sofa at CB2 (there was a question posted just over a week ago asking). I posted my response, but I wasn't sure how many would see it or remember it. Here's what I wrote.

Sorry it took so long to respond concerning the Shelter sofa. I did not get to CB2 until this weekend. The sofa was comfortable enough, but I'd definitely add some throw pillows like Maxwell suggests. Probably a LOT of pillows. I've sat in a lot of worse, hard, uncomfortable sofas, so I don't want to make it sound like this was that bad. It had some cushion and a little give, but again, needs pillows!

One thing I didn't like was that the sofa is kind of low. I'm pretty short, so when a sofa is a little difficult to stand up from, it is probably pretty low. And it is short (in length), but you knew that Henry. I could probably stretch all the way out, but I'm only 5'2". With the high sides, it would make things difficult for a taller person to feel comfortable.

The fabric was rather nice, a good neutral shade and nice to sit on. I wasn't too crazy about the chair, I felt almost claustrophobic sitting in it with its high sides.

Hope this helps!

I don't think the blog format works very well at all on this site. There's too much info to share. I think there should be regular html pages for each subject/category, with links to a variety of articles that pertains to each page's topic. Then, have a section for comments at the bottom, if you want, but everything being blogged in chrono order is a royal pain. I would like to just click to one page and see all the contests, one page and see all the whatever.

A week or two ago someone was asking about kicky black-and-white shower curtains, so this past weekend I found myself in Gracious Home on Broadway and 67th Street and they had a couple of them that I liked, so I sent them to the Flickr bar on the right.

The first one I managed to identify myself and what it was, but the 2nd one managed to get "sent" before I got a chance to do any such thing. If the person that had asked about that clicks onto there, just back up a few pictures and have a look.

I just noticed that the thing on the right says that the Apartment Therapy book is coming out on my exact birthday. Guess what I'll be asking for this year? Yes! Money! Wadda ya think I am - crazy? Sure. But what else? That book!

My husband and I are thinking of getting a sleep number bed. I was wondering if anyone out there has one and what they think of it? Thanks!!

Hello all -

I have been searching frantically for a small, modern television cabinet with two interior shelves AND doors to conceal the cable box / DVD player. The main problem is that it needs to be less than 30" wide but at least 24" wide. Originally, I wasn't expecting this to be a difficult search. It seems, however, that most popular companies are only doing long and low media benches which just won't work in my tiny apartment. Does anyone have recommendations?

On a similar note, does anyone know of a company selling reasonably priced, WHITE furniture made from REAL wood? Looking for another cabinet/buffet with a Scandinavian modern flair. I'm not impressed with what CB2, C.B., P.B., W.E. and IKEA offer.

Thank you!

Curtis-- do you take paypal? I bet the AT community would totally chip in. Hmmm...

If that book is so expensive that it would "take a village" of AT-ers just to pay for it, it might be pretty hard to sell. Actually, I have the last part of a Borders gift card that it will probably fit on. But you're a huge sweetie to suggest that!

But to answer your question literally honestly? I do have a PayPal account.

I think that Lindsay Wagner does NOT look she's getting the kind of sleep she says she does on hers. But I haven't tried one, myself. However... it seems that a lot of hotels these days are bragging about using that kind of bed.

So, if you're planning on taking a trip anytime soon, you could probably do a search and find one that has one, and go ahead and stay there! And if you think you only want to spend money on a hotel and NOT a plane flight, I'm pretty sure there are some of those hotels here in the NYC.

I second Cutis' excellent suggestion. My husband slept on one during a business trip. He said he played about with it a bit but didn't think much of it.

by the way, what you said about lindsay wagner is totally right!!! ha! i find her super annoying on the commerical.

We have the same birthdays! (I'm turning 21 this year.) I think I only know of one other person with the same date. Hooray for Aries!

Sleep Number Bed
i'm totally sold on ours. Had it for almost 2 years and would definitely purchase one again if ever in the mattress-market.

We don't often adjust the firmness--takes several nights to find the right level, but it is great to be able to adjust when extra-tired, not feeling well, or having a "sore" body part (occasional shoulder problem for me).

Trying one in a hotel is a good idea, although a couple nights there might not be enough to find the most comfortable level (number) for you and to get past the novelty aspect.

Ours also has a memory foam mattress pad.

A good bed & a good shower are my essentials; all else negotiable.

Hi folks,

I have seen in past open threads and article comments that at least some of the AT community has Interface FLOR tiles. I was wondering if there are any problems with shedding -- I mean little bits of carpet fluff finding their way from the FLOR-covered area to other rooms, socks, clothes, etc.

I recently received a pack of sample tiles with a variety of textures and I did a quick "shed test" by rubbing the tiles in between my hands, only to see a torrential downpour of thread bits (to my dismay). I'm not that convinced by my little test, so I thought I'd ask those of you who have the tiles to get a better idea of their performance under normal living situations. I'm trying to upgrade from a rug that sheds like a wild beast so I would like to move away from that sort of thing...

Thanks!

I have interface flor in my living room and bedroom and swear by it. I have not noticed any shedding and the blue lushleaf in my br is so soft and nice in the morning--its an absolute pleasure

I hope this is OK to post here ... I'm a journalist writing a story on the new breed of velvet/flock wallpaper. Anyone out there use this product recently? Anyone have any problems? Please contact me directly at emma@emma-johnson.net if you care to share.

Many thanks in advance!

I'm very interested in a sleep number bed too.. thanks for the suggestions to try it out at a hotel. The boy and I have VERy different firmness tastes - he likes it firm and i enjoy falling into a soft bed.

Am I the only one who reads Entertainment Weekly around here? The Pre-Oscar issue from 10 days ago carried the rag's usual In/Out box. Who do you think is IN??

MAXWELL GILLINGHAM-RYAN..... IN
(Ty Pennington and Thom Filipa/Queer Eye, OUT)

Let's hear it for MGR. I know we don't need EW to tell us our guide to healthy happy living is IN...but they got that right, RIGHT???

Yeah for Maxwell! Yup. He's our man!

bryan.nyc - The answer to both your questions seems self-evident: hire a carpenter and have something simple built. Give them any pics you like for style reference. Buy "real wood" furniture in bare wood - either from a store that specializes in that kind of thing, or from someone who will build to your specs - and then paint it white or have it painted. Plenty of people around here should be able to give you specific references (especially if you submit to "good questions") for reliable carpenters/cabinetmakers in your area. :)

Has anyone here tried or seen the furniture that ManhattanLoft.com sells? I've been looking at that site for years and I like some of the things they sell, but haven't tried to see them in person.

Hi Sandie, welcome to AT!

Re: your frustration at the AT format, please note that on the right side of the home page there's a long list of links to different topics. Also, there's a search box near the very top of the page which you can use to find info, including archived material.

Personally, I enjoy the free-form nature of our open threads. It's sorta like sitting in someone's living room in a big comfy sofa at the end of a day and chatting about any and everything. Best part is, if you have a specific question, there always seems to be someone on AT who can offer some helpful tips.

Hope you continue visiting. AT kinda grows on you after a while.

Gekko, Thanks, but I know how to use the archives. I mean, you really have to use them here. But IMHO they're not very user-friendly. Maybe it's just blogs in general - they're not the best way to gather information, they're really just like a diary of comments. For example, if I want to go to a page to see all past contests, there really isn't one. Click on "Competitions" and you get a link to each entry but there's no central page for each "Competition" but Contests are elsewhere. I don't think it works at all, and I've been hopping through all the archives for a while now. I do admit that I just don't like blogs.

Believe it or not, I have two good friends who are also Aries, within a week of my own birthday. Seems like we would butt heads, being rams, hunh? But not really.

By the way... YEA for Maxwell! Maybe someone will give him some huge format show all his own? That would be great!
