Tuesday design school is in session...
Welcome to Paluka who says maintenance costs are not such a big deal, Design Milk who says those fees should cover maid service, valerie who has really good bathroom decor advice for CI and MBPNYC who has noticed "an AWFUL lot of apartments for sale at 372 Fifth lately."!

random question. i've saw some lightbulbs at the mercer kitchen that i thought were really neat. they were clear as opposed to white and you could see the filament. where can you get these?

What's a better paint: Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore?

hi all. i bought a dresser off of craigslist for $90, thinking that it wouldn't be that difficult or expensive to have someone move it for me... well i was totally wrong. after many days and phone calls i found someone to move it for $70, and he just called to tell me that his truck broke down. i was going to move it myself with a friend, but the owner said she doesn't think the drawers come out, so it would be too heavy to carry up two flights of stairs. anyone have any advice, suggestions?? i'm upset... and if i lose the money that i spent on this one, i have no idea where to find a reasonably inexpensive (but nice) dresser that can be delivered. help! (thanks)

Jessica,
For what it's worth, we just renovated our apartment and our contractor would only use Benjamin Moore. He claims it is easier to work with and more durable.

I like Blik's wall graphics, but remember someone on the site saying that you could get to the same effect with stencilling. Does anyone have a good primer on how to create and use stencils? Is it enough of a pain to warrant just going to Blik?

the blik wall graphics are inexpensive enough that I would choose them over creating my own stencil and taking the time to paint (especially if you don't have a lot of experience painting with stencils because they tend to bleed and look unprofessional if you're not experienced). i think the blik graphics are easier to take down to change the look, rather than painting over.

Hello! I have a very small bedroom, and have no floor space for a hamper or laundry basket. I was thinking of trying to rig something to hang on the back wall of my closet but cannot find anything like that on the web. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Nevermind, I just found something perfect on the Linens and Things website.

hey - to all my fellow canadians out there, I found an interesting online resource for the elfa shelving system and other modern storage solutions: www.hightechonline.ca

enjoy!

A while back I asked a question about lighting shoji screens. You can see that here:

I could not find rope lighting like I wanted to, but I found some Christmas lights-style LED lights that worked okay. You can see the finished result here:

Thanks for letting the other shoe drop, Brendan! It looks nice, lit up.

Jonathan, Do not hate yourself with your sense of humor you can bring "joy to the world."

Thanks for telling me about screaming at a store manager, I have the impulse but I am afraid I would be arrested.

Thanks for the tip angelune. Its good advice, and the Blik wall graphics I bought look awesome (gold on apple green walls). That said, I may try and figure out stencilling for dummies, because I now have all these appealing (probably overreaching) ideas.

This is the very first time I've painted my apartment walls, and I'm very much a decorating newbie (my apartment was nouvel frat house until recently). Apartment Therapy (the book, the site and the blog) have been a great source of inspiration and a reminder that most design mistakes are eminently reversible.

Jonathan, I hope you don't really hate yourself. If you do, please don't wait to get professional help.
