I have a question about bathtub glass doors. I have a very small bathroom, and I am about to renovate. I am thinking about doing away with a shower curtain as it seems to divide the space even smaller.
I have been looking into glass shower screens, and am thinking about a partition style screen that goes half way across the bath tub- my question is- doesn't the bathroom get wet, if the screen is only halfway across? Does anyone have one of these?

Any other ideas for this type of enclosure? They also make swinging glass doors, but since the tub is right next to the vanity, it wouldn't have room to swing.

ANy input would be great!

Shari,

I have one of those glass doors. My tup is 60" long and we cot a custom glass door that goes approximately 2/3rds (I think it's 37" or 38") of that length. Ours is custom because we have the toilet next to the tub and we wanted a door that could swing over it so we have a fixed piece right next to the wall and a door attached to that. We get a little water that makes it beyond the screen. A door that only goes halfway would really not have worked in containing our vigorous splashing. However the width of 38" necessitated it being able to swing open, otherwise we would have had to step into the tub to switch the faucet on, which is not a big deal so why was that an issue for us? Who knows? It deserts me now.

Shari, I have used this link before but take a look at the first picture to see what I think Reef is talking about

http://www.cbienclosures.com/macc_ts.htm

We had a half glass panel and you did get water pooling at the outside of the base of the tub on the end away from the door but it was not excessive. We also got splashing around about a 2 feet area outside the open area but that di not pool.

To me a clear (not frosted etc.), frameless glass shower door is preferable to a curtain so the not excessively wet floor was a small price to pay.

For the FSBO commenters that are continually surprised at the high cost of apts in NYC, I thought this link was appropriate because we did get some Londoners basically saying that you should see London prices:

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

For those interesting in seeing the process of my mother's bathroom renovation, I just posted all of the pictures with detailed descriptions on my flickr site.

Very impressive, Lori 2! What is the finish on the cabinets to make it look so much like brushed metal?

Box Springs- necessary or not?

I'm contemplating ditching my box springs. I thought maybe putting a sheet of plywood over the bed slats and putting my mattress on that would be enough. Has anyone tried this?

I love my mattress comfort-wise, but it is so thick that with the box springs I'm sleeping as high as a loft bed! Even if I switch to a "low profile" box spring it will still be higher than I prefer.

i posted this in the last thread but it was last yesterday.

wanted to know if anyone could help me in finding a hospital table for your bed type thing. i need a free standing bed table that rotates. of course, i would like something a little more eye pleasing than an actual hospital bed, i'm even willing to try a diy solution. ikea/ready made has one that rolls over the whole bed but i'd rather have one i can rotate away from the bed without disturbing others sitting beside me. havent had much luck searching online...so any help will be much appreciated. thanks!

Aluminum...

So, here is the craigslist rehab of the weekend... I just got the most adorable rocker (think eames -$300) off of craigslist (Boston) but it is aluminum and very pitted. I have googled and googled (and last night did hot soapy water + Mr. Clean's Eraser + Cameo with sponges and toothbrushes) but am left confused on the best way to get to a shine. To sandpaper or not to sandpaper? That is one of the many quesitons... Any best practices with aluminum... (No power tools please!)

If that's a laminate, I am *so* haunting home stores for samples after we move... it's really difficult to effectively fake stainless steel or brushed nickel at any dollhouse scale.

i've heard there exists a spray paint stainles steel effect. that might be easy for some dollhouse furniture.

i've seen it used on accessories like photo frames, lamp bases, etc. and it looks pretty good. never seen it on a large scale, though.

rose,

I use brass wool (not steel!!!) on rusted bicycle parts. Works like a charm.

Hey Amy: Where do you get your brass wool? Rose

Wende,

What about those rolls of stainless steel looking stuff that has adhesive on one side? Would that work for your needs?

Lori 2 -- I'll have to see if I can find that in small amounts. There's a drama surrounding the "stainless steel" kitchen in Miles & Theo's (still not photographed) cottage... tried using a thin piece of metal that came attached to an issue of Nest... it bubbled... tried paint unhappily... tried paper (it bubbled!)... finally settled on metallic cardstock, which is starting to peel off. Bleh.

Sometimes real life is actually simpler.

Attention all NYers,

I had written of having a problem with LEESAM Kitchen and Bath on 7th Ave. My medicine cabinet did not fit and I wrote APT. THERAPY I felt there was an injustice that I received no credit. Thanks to Apt Therapy and the cooperation of the owner of LEESAM I will receive
a 50% credit.

Thanks to all,

Susan
