OK -- probably a really dumb question but here goes -- is there a quick way to get to Maxwell's/Sara Kate's photos? When you click the link above you get to everyone else's AT pics. Muchas gracias!

Go to the "our team" section under the "about" button on the lower right side.

Wende,

This is the adhesive stainless steel stuff I was thinking of:

Lori -- thanks, but I meant their Flickr photos with progress on their apt.

Lori 2 -- Very cool! Even if it doesn't work for me, I'll end up recommending it to other people. Thank you!

Frank,
Yeah, I kind of realized I might not be answering your question after I posted. Sorry!

Wende,
Sure thing!

Frank -- The 9-Month Cure stories usually include photos, but the slideshows are on AT's server, so they may not be quite what you're after.

It's really time for an update, hint hint.

Hi everybody,

I'm in love with the six-sided, um, side table inside the front cover of the fall 06 west elm catalog. Alas, the rep tells me it's a 'prop' and not for sale. Has anyone seen a piece like this somewhere else?

Many thanks!

this is a bit of carryover from the big crazy 'family status' poll. but i thought it was interesting and needed addressing.

p2, yeah, i know that gay men have child issues that lesbians just don't have to deal with. i kind of meant to address that in my big monster post, but i was exhausted and incoherent. sorry. i do completely understand that, due to certain details about anatomy, straight male culture, etc, i could just go out and get myself knocked up pretty much whenever, regardless of sexual orientation, whereas that sort of thing is a lot more difficult for gay men. especially if one is looking for a more traditional and nuclear family sort of situation.

Opo, I think it would be far more difficult for you to "go out and get knocked up" as you suggest. To do so, inevitably one would have to encounter your personality and this would likely be a hindrance.

Thanks Wende -- in rereading the heading, I realize that the phrase is "our apartments" (plural) and I was mis-interpreting as the singular, assuming it meant M&SK's. Oops.

Please, let's drop the kid debate. It's irrelevant to this site.

i know, Pixie. i just wanted to address one of P2's comments to me in that post, and i figured he'd never see it down at #130 or whatever. it wasn't necessarily an attempt to start a discussion of the mechanics of LGBT reproduction.

Thank you opoponax.

I can't check this out since this needs to be on the Firefox browser to work and I don't have that here at work.

Allison in DC, the hexagon table is just a prop? That's not the first time I've seen something in a West Elm catalog that wasn't immediately available, only to later show up as an item they sell. It might show up in a month or so in the stores.

Speaking of "getting knocked up" -- any update on the floor plan for the 9 month cure? I am fascinated by the plan that the GR child will apparently be sleeping on something that is, at most, equivalent to 9x14 legal-size paper, or maybe an unfolded diaper.

Most cribs I've seen are, uh, SLIGHTLY larger than that -- a good 36"x48" or so. Any news?

posted by me on 2006-09-06 14:40:03

opoponax--
I'm still reading that thread, btw. I have a fairly long attention span! :)

And apparently, Jonathan, lack of personality has proved no hindrance to your (frightening) success at spawning. God help us.

It is frightening. Particularly because we thought i was shooting blanks for quite some time. Fear not, the half savage bastard looks nothing like me, he looks 100% like the chunkster.

posted by Jonathan on 2006-09-06 14:45:35

me, for what it's worth, the reason cribs are so much bigger than the space planned for in the 9 month cure is that cribs are meant for babies and toddlers up to 2-3 years old. a lot of parents of newborns don't even use a crib right away but go for a smaller thing like a bassinet, basket, etc. or even just put the baby in the bed with the parents. cribs are really more for when babies get bigger. which, of course, is going to happen, and i guess they'll cross that bridge when they come to it.

jimkk, yes, I called west elm when I couldn't find the purchasing info in the catalog and the rep said that the table is just a prop.

Thanks for your feedback on the availability - very helpful. I'll try them again in a month or so.

I am mulling over the right design for the wine cellar, and I found this odd little site that may be of interest. People take pictures of their wine cellars and post them.

as a long shot, try west elm's bigger siblings: pottery barn and williams sonoma home.

as for the comment about props becoming product, I had a similar experience with pottery barn, but did wind up with a chair I really like. Which is more than I can say for most of what it offers.
