OK, MARTHA STEWART + ROSIE O'DONNELL just rocked THE VIEW.
loosely paraphrasing:
'What can't you do Martha? or will you not do? what about outer space?" M: something about seeing a man who's visiting the russian space station + that she'd love to but's too busy running her company
...on needing to be optimistic...about adopting kids ("sure i'll do a Madonna" or Josephine Baker, mia Farrow, A. Jolie), loving little kids more than big ones ("send em as teenagers to me + i'll send em back b4 college" added Rosie, her umpteenth parenting reference per week, brilliant as usual),
...talking w/ pets, etc...b4 carving pumpkins w/ power drills and xmas lights.....

i know this is AT, not TV w/out Pity or whatevr but i have to say the VIEW is kind of on fire w/ Rosie ruling amongst the domestic goddesses or truly tribute-ing guest stars; last week they gave us Susan Lucci, delightful + Joan rivers, masterfully self deprecating, same episode! Is Dianne Von Furstenburg next?
certainly worth the TIVO or videotape for you 9-5ers...

painting the town...pink...to lift spirits?
don't mean to hog it up here, but this is fascinating, in a communal "got color?" way:

"PATNA, India, Oct 16 (Reuters Life!) - Authorities in eastern India are painting a crime-infested town pink in the hope that an image makeover will lift the sagging morale of residents who are fed up with the decline in law and order, officials said on Monday.
The ancient town of Aurangabad in Bihar -- one of India's most backward and poorest states..."

That pink Indian town seems like a trend with the pink prison report on the SF link. Pink jumpsuits keeping inmates from fighting and from returning to the pink prison. I wonder about the cultural difference about pink in India and in US. Some shades always make me think of Pepto and being sick.

Of course, Jaipur is the original "pink city" in India. More of an earthy-orangy-bricky color than true pink, but pretty nevertheless. See http://i1.trekearth.com/photos/20280/the_pink_city.jpg .

The article that's mentioned above has errors in it. The city of Aurangabad is not in the crime-infested state of Bihar. I've been there. It's the gateway to the splendors of the Ajanta and Ellora caves. AT-fans might want to ponder how they'd approach carving their apartments out of a single rock, as the Ellora caves do with temples and entire hills.

A fresh coat of paint on *everything* has to make a town less slumlike (at least temporarily), whether it's pink or lime or baby blue.

Okay, red (in the manner of the town painted in High Plains Drifter) might have the wrong effect.

Maybe you should celebrate the 300 with a picture of the kitchen - I am still dying to see the final result.

Design D,
the Ajanta + Ellora caves, amazing!

the pink town thing is perfectly sublime/ridiculous i think.
Yahoo also ran a blip about tree houses this week.

pink prison jumpers...prevent returns...pepto bismo...reminds me of how some veterinarians will put an unruly or uppity cat in a little tshirt to humiliate/restrain it.
(also of when Jello Biafra ran for mayor of SF years ago with the declaration that financial district employees? would have to wear clown suits sometimes.)

i love that orange is a jumper color for murderous inmates to certain monks..which leads to an appreciation for Zen monks in sober brown robes + crew cuts (when i see them i have to restrain myself from applauding their sense of chic!
and that pink and orange are sometimes refered to as the navy + biege or neutrals of India...would be good to get there some day to see how true that is beyond saris.
